95 Point Italian Gems

The 2013 vintage in Italy was pretty legendary for some, and these two producers are among them. Castello di Ama is widely considered to be among the greatest Chiantis produced. And Virna’s regular Barolo DOCG in this vintage had the same quality as a normal year’s single vineyard offerings (but look at the price!). These are some great deals for you Italian wine lovers out there.

2013 Castello di Ama Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo
On Sale $46.99
The precision and beauty to this wine is very impressive with blueberry, blackberry and dark chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a clean finish. It’s tight and focused. Gorgeous. Drink or hold.

2013 Virna Barolo
On Sale $29.99
Tar, orange peel and strawberry aromas follow through to a full body with chewy and powerful tannins and a long and flavorful finish. A structured and intense wine. Don’t miss this. Crazy quality for a straight up Barolo blend. Much better in 2021.
