2011 Brovia Barolo Garblet Sue
On Sale $59.99
The 2011 Barolo Garblèt Sue’ is remarkably polished and sophisticated, two qualities that are rarely found in this Castiglione Falletto site, where the wines tend to be much more sinewy and virile. White pepper, pomegranate and sweet red cherries are some of the notes that open up in the glass. The flavors remain bright, focused and beautifully delineated in the glass. I very much like the sense of energy here, although I have to admit, the softer edges of 2011 are incredibly alluring.

2011 Brovia Barolo
On Sale $46.99
Brovia’s 2011 Barolo shows some vintage warmth with ripe fruit and dried cherries. This is a great effort despite the somewhat simplistic aromatic offerings. The wine’s bouquet shows easy fruit and cherry aromas offset by classic tones of licorice and light spice. This vintage reveals a dark, resiny personality with tar and asphalt characteristics that are present in many of the wines produced in 2011.

2011 Brovia Barolo Vigne Ca’ Mia
On Sale $69.99
Lavender, mint, sage, smoke, tobacco and plums are all laced together in the 2011 Barolo Brea Vigna Ca’Mia. As always, the Ca’Mia is a decidedly vertical Barolo built on a spine of persistent tannin, but in 2011 there is a little bit of added polish that serves to soften the contours. Tucked off the main road, Brea remains one of the least well-known vineyards in Serralunga. The 2011 is a great wine to start exploring some of the nuances of this site. A huge finish that brings together power and voluptuousness captures the pure radiance of the year.

2012 Conterno Fantino Barolo Sori Ginestra
On Sale $82.99
Aromas of ripe strawberry, violet, rose petal and sandalwood follow through a full body, round and very silky tannins and a long and linear finish. The tannin texture caresses for minutes. Better in 2020.

A dense and velvety wine with lovely chocolate and berry character. Medium to full body and velvety tannins. Drink in 2019.

2012 Mauro Molino Barolo La Serra
On Sale $72.99
Intense aromas of rose petal, rose hips and dried strawberry. Full body, chewy tannins and savory fruit. Very rich and intense. Needs four or five years to soften the solid tannins backbone. Try in 2020.

2012 Mauro Molino Barolo La Conca
On Sale $82.99
Insane aromas of fresh roses and crushed strawberries. Full and velvety-textured. Loads of fruit yet the serious tannin backbone of the wine gives it form and tension. Superb. Better in 2020 but who has the patience?

2011 Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne
On Sale $109.99
Rose petal, mint, crushed flowers, sweet red berries and cinnamon are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass. A wine of exquisite perfume and aromatic lift, the 2011 Le Vigne is all about finesse and pure texture. With time in the glass, the 2011 blossoms into a layered, head-turning wine. This is a great effort from Sandrone. In 2011, Le Vigne includes fruit from Villero for the first time. Few wines straddle the modern and traditional with this much pure finesse.
