To kick off February, we’re featuring a collection of our favorite wines from Burgundy! This has always been an area we feel passionate about, and these are great examples of what we love.
2017 Domaine des Granges Macon-Villages
On Sale $14.99
100% juice from the village of Chaintre. Lemon and lime aromas with a strong mineral note. This shows the cooler side of the vintage with a pretty dried flower aroma. Loads classic limestone character is there. The mouth is elegant crisp with tart apple and pear flavors. 50+ year old vines. No wood at all.
2016 Vincent Girardin “Vieilles Vignes Blanc,” Rully AOP, Cote Chalonnaise
On Sale $29.99
100% Chardonnay from 55 year old vines. Whole cluster pressed and both fermentation and aging are done in 500 liter French oak casks (10% new) with indigenous yeasts. A delicious white Burgundy, vibrant and juicy, delivering peach, grapefruit, hazelnut, and spice aromas and flavors. This has intensity, harmony, good complexity and fine length, all adding to its appeal. Bottled with a screw cap as it’s designed for immediate gratification!
2018 Domaine Guillemard-Clerc “Les Parties,” Bourgogne Blanc AOP
On Sale $24.99
100% Chardonnay, vinification in barrel, 20 barrels made 1-3 year old French oak. “Les Parties” is a great vineyard located within the village of Puligny and touches “Les Houlieres” (Puligny Village). The nose displays vibrant lime zest, white flowers and calcaire with sweet vanilla oak. The middle is complex, showing ripe apple skin, smoky calcaire with great tension and drive, and hints of spicy oak on the finish.
2018 Aubert Lefas Bourgogne Blanc “Les Grandes Carelles”
On Sale $19.99
50% barrel (10% new oak) 50% tank. 90% whole cluster fermentation; sourced from Pommard; Big, juicy, fruit cherry nose with loads of forest floor, grilled meats and earth. The mouth is bright and concentrated with cherry, mushroom, underbrush and smoked herbs and a long finish.
2017 Domaine Vincent Ledy Bourgogne Rouge “Cuvee Nicolas,” Nuits-Saint-Georges
On Sale $24.99
This wine is a very special cuvee brought to us by our favorite importer, Craig Baker, who commissioned the bottling in honor of his son Nicolas. Ledy’s wines are made very traditionally, and he farms all of his fruit from vineyards with status above Bourgogne. He is one of the tiny producers Jason and Craig met on their annual trip to Burgundy and they agreed that the wines are extraordinary.
2016 Domaine Confuron-Gindre Bourgogne Rouge AOP
On Sale $19.99
Brilliant concentrated ruby color. Elevage in used French oak. Made with fruit from 5 separate parcels in Vosne-Romanee. Cool and herbal nose with smokey mineral and dark cherry aromas. Intoxicating, hard to believe it’s Bourgogne! The palate leads me to think this can go for a few years in a cold cellar. Awesome tannin and acidity that gives a crazy level of tension and balance.
2017 Louis Jadot Santenay
On Sale $39.99
Hints of toastiness as well as ripe fruits give this wine both openness and a spicy texture. It is full, with good acidity to balance the rich apple and pear flavors. Drink from 2020.
