Meet Tom Monroe, owner and winemaker of Division Wine Co., and someone with a lot of ties to St. Louis! Tom grew up here and still roots for the Cardinals! Nowadays he’s making a series of awesome wines for Division Wine Co. in Oregon, and this Friday he’s coming for a visit! Meet him and taste some of his wines, including a sparkling Pinot Noir and more!
2016 Division-Villages Pinot Noir “Methode Carbonique,” Willamette Valley
On Sale $19.99
We have never really considered our “Méthode Carbonique” Pinot Noir to be overly complex wine, rather more of a fun and “glou glou” in style. The 2016 vintage has changed our thoughts and that, and while the wine is classically carbonic in nature, there is much more going on than we have been able to produce in the past. The wine is aromatically dense with concentrated strawberries, well harmonized against cloves, anise and fresh quince. The palate is perfectly balanced, and singing with strawberry compote and a hint of smokiness. All in all perfect summer red, with plenty of intrigue for discussion, or simply as a lovely accompaniment for just about anything.
2015 Division Chardonnay “Un,” Willamette Valley
On Sale $24.99
The 2015 Chardonnay “Un” completed malolactic fermentation resulting in a nice balance of citrus and the ever present saline notes in our wines, layered with orchard characteristics and some very delicate “sweet cream” like flavor from the lactic acid. The 2014 Division Chardonnay “Un” brings a nice amount of richness from the vintage, which is balanced with acidity and full phenolic flavors. We are quite pleased with the result from the very hot year and believe the wine will be perfect for enjoying on the table for the next few years!
2016 Division “Breton,” Willamette Valley
On Sale $19.99
Aromatically, this wine is fairly open, immediately showing the classic carbonic nose from the Pinot & Gamay with pungent raspberry, cherry Coca-Cola and bit of earthy spice – classic Touraine Rouge! The palate continues the raspberry line, albeit quite juicy, leading to more red fruit, a bit of grilled flavor and some mineral tones.
2015 Division Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley
On Sale $26.99
Perhaps our finest Pinot Noir effort yet, this wines has both dense ripe flavors and vibrant freshness and liveliness. Raspberry, cherry and rose petal dominate the aromatics with a core of red fruits accompanied by winter spices, dried herbs and some earthiness on the palate.
2015 Division Pinot Noir “Quatre,” Willamette Valley
On Sale $39.99
The 2015 Pinot Noir “Quatre” Bjornson Vineyard is our first single vineyard release of the vintage! While we knew we had something great on our hands, we are very pleased by how approachable, yet complex the wine is in its youth – likely due to it’s young vine nature. This very small “Quatre” cuvee was aged in French Oak; one single one-year old barrel and one neutral for 10 months, without any racking. The wine is minerally intense, layering in boysenberry and mushrooms. The fruit lends itself to the blue spectrum and the palate is already demonstrating really nice textural weight and well resolved tannins. Drink some now, but make sure to put a few bottles away, this one will age for a while!
