In our Event Space

Join us Saturday as we host not one, but TWO winemakers! Mauro Manzone is making more 95+ point wines in Barolo that you can shake a stick at. And from Martian Wines, Nan Helgeland and her husband Brian, both long-time Angelenos (FYI, Brian wrote the screenplays for L.A. Confidential and Mystic River) are producing some of the most compelling wines in Santa Barbara we’ve come across in some time. This will be one of the best tastings we’ll host all year so DO NOT miss this!

See the exciting details below…

Martian Ranch with Nan and Brian Helgeland

Martian Ranch is a biodynamically farmed 102-acre property in Los Alamos (Santa Ynez, California). Martian Ranch has 20 acres of vines planted to 10 different grape varieties, each perfectly suited to the climate of the ranch. Biodynamic principles, which take organic farming to the next level, strive to create a diversified and balanced ecosystem while focusing on the health and fertility of the soil. Plus, bonus, we love the space theme behind these labels. These folks remind us that wine should always be fun.

Giovanni Manzone Wines with Mauro Manzone

Giovanni Manzone has been crafting highly rated, terroir-driven Nebbiolo in the Cru of Monteforte d’Alba for generations! The current Manzone in charge (Mauro) is one of the few producers left who chooses to bottle his Baroli on the late side. We are excited for this opportunity to taste and learn with one of the region’s great estates!

2013 Giovanni Manzone “Bricat” Barolo
On Sale $68.99
Dark cherry, plum, lavender, mint, wild herbs and smoke infuse the 2013 Barolo Bricat. Dark, powerful and brooding, but also very much medium-bodied in structure, the 2013 is wonderfully complete and full of allure. There is plenty of tannin, but the wine is impeccably balanced from start to finish. The darker and more muscular side of Gramolere comes through very nicely. There is so much to like, but the 2013 also shuts down quickly in the glass, which suggests it is likely to require a good few years in bottle to fully come together.
95 points, Vinous

2013 Giovanni Manzone “Castelletto” Barolo
On Sale $68.99
The 2013 Barolo Castelletto is another superb wine from Manzone. Beams of Castelletto tannin and bright acidity give the wine its super-distinctive feel. A wine of focus and drive, the Castelletto will appeal most to readers who enjoy taut, vibrant Barolos. This is another superb showing from Manzone.
