Join us this weekend to taste some delicious Champagne with Jean-Benoit Henry from Champagne Moutard. This highly regarded grower-producer in the Cote de Bar has been on more than a roll lately, consistently turning out exceptionally fine, distinctively pure Champagnes. We’ll also be unveiling for the FIRST time in Saint Louis their rare Tete-de-Cuvée of all six grapes permitted in the AOP of Champagne….pretty cool!

Multi Vintage Moutarde Brut “Mini Moutard” Champage AOP
On Sale $11.99 200ml
Tropical hints of papaya and passion fruit pâte de fruit are enlivened by bright and tangy acidity, layered on the lively bead with flavors of Gala apple, blanched almond and fresh ginger. Well-knit and vibrant, with a sleek, minerally finish.

Multi Vintage Moutard Brut “Grande Cuvée” Champage AOP
On Sale $32.99 750ml (pre sale, arriving in a month)
I was quite taken with the wines I tasted from Moutard this year. The NV Brut Grande Cuvee (Pinot Noir) emerges from the glass with high-toned notes of Mirabelle plums, kirsch, crushed flowers and sweet herbs. There is an exotic quality to the Grande Cuvee that is totally beguiling. Intensely aromatic and layered through to the finish, the Grande Cuvee impresses for its delicate, feminine personality and overall balance. This release is based on the 2009 vintage with the addition of 30% reserve wines. Dosage was 10 grams per liter. Disgorged July 2012. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015.

Multi Vintage Moutard Brut Rose Champagne AOP
On Sale $32.99 750ml
The estate’s NV Brut Rosé is made from 100% Pinot Noir and vinified in steel, saignée-style. It is delicate yet subtly powerful, with plenty of appeal for near-term drinking and also cellaring. Silky tannins frame a core of expressive fruit as the wine opens up in the glass. Moutard gave the Brut Rosé 36 months on the lees and dosage was 10 grams per liter. Disgorgement date unknown.

2008 Moutard Brut “6 Cépages” Champagne AOP
On Sale $79.99 (pre sale, arriving in a month)
Fine and creamy, with flavors of ripe crushed cherry, fleur de sel and almond skin layered with hints of crushed black currant and singed orange peel. Balanced and juicy, featuring smoke and spice notes on the plush finish. Enjoy this somewhat opulent style with food, even light meat dishes. Drink now through 2026. 1,575 cases made.

Table 2: Siduri Pinot Noirs

Because we think you should ALWAYS follow up Champagne with red wine, we’re also pouring some brilliant Pinot Noirs, including two single vineyards, from Pinot master Adam Lee at Siduri. Siduri produces over 30 single vineyard Pinot Noirs from all over Oregon and California. For this tasting we’re focusing on Santa Lucia Highlands in the central coast of California. We are in love with this region and these wines will convert you too!

2015 Siduri Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands
On Sale $31.99
The classic base 2015 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir comes from seven vineyards (two new ones, Lemoravo and Escolle), located towards the southern end of the appellation, and sees varying amount of whole cluster and is aged in 20-25% new French oak. It’s a textbook Santa Lucia Pinot and has lots of violets, juicy berry fruits, cranberry and spice in a rounded, plump, charming and delicious style. It’s a terrific value.

2015 Siduri Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands, “Pisoni Vineyard”
On Sale $54.99
Limpid ruby. Expansive, spice-accented red and dark berry aromas show excellent clarity and pick up suggestions of cola and potpourri with air. Juicy, focused and appealingly sweet, offers intense black raspberry and spicecake flavors that tighten up steadily on the back half. Shows impressive depth and power and finishes sappy and impressively long, with slow-building tannins and an emphatic echo of juicy dark fruit.

2015 Siduri Pinot Noir Santa Rita Hills, “John Sebastiano Vineyard”
On Sale $42.99
Possessing a darker, earthy profile, the 2015 Pinot Noir John Sebastiano Vineyard gives up plenty of plum, spice, leafy herbs and violets in a rich, yet elegant, seamless style. It’s another silky Sta. Rite Hills Pinot Noir
