BEST of Washington: Sheridan Vineyard with “Big John” Caudill
“Wow, hold on to your hats for these latest releases from Sheridan’s Scott Greer! This is a killer vintage from this Yakima Valley based estate and he’s made one of the Cabernet Sauvignons of the vintage, probably the best Cabernet Franc I’ve ever tasted from Washington, and an insanely good Syrah that reminds me of Guigal’s famed Côte Rôties. Bravo!”
Jeb Dunnuck on the 2015 releases from Sheridan
2015 Sheridan Vineyard Chardonnay “Crossfork Creek,” Yakima Valley AVA
On Sale $13.99
Deep golden color with knockout aromas of fresh peach and yellow apples complicated by hints of tart mangoes, honey, and barrel spices. The nose is very expressive and complex. The mouth is deceptively dry with hints of minerals on the palate. It is rich and silky, without being overly so, and finishes with ripe citrus fruits, pear, and minerals. This is excellent Chardonnay!
2015 Sheridan Vineyard Merlot “Crossfork Creek,” Yakima Valley AVA
On Sale $17.99
A big, sexy Merlot that’s loaded with notions of cassis, saddle leather, cedary spice and toasty oak, the 2015 Merlot from Scott Greer is medium to full-bodied, ripe, rounded and savory on the palate, with fine tannin showing on the finish. Drink this St. Emilion look-alike over the coming 4-6 years.
91 Points, The Wine Advocate
2015 Sheridan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon “Crossfork Creek,” Yakima Valley AVA
On Sale $17.99
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is a winner. Blackcurrants, dark chocolate and hints of leafy herbs all flow to a medium-bodied, supple, elegant and nicely textured Cabernet that’s ideal for drinking over the coming 4-6 years.
89 Points, The Wine Advocate
2015 Sheridan Vineyards Mystique, Yakima Valley AVA
On Sale $24.99
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Mystique is killer wine! Its deep ruby/purplish color is followed by notes of blackcurrants, white chocolate, wood smoke and tobacco. Deep, plush and opulent on the palate, with silky texture, drink this hedonistic, yet perfectly balanced beauty over the coming decade or so.
94 Points, The Wine Advocate
2015 Sheridan Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon “L’Orage,” Yakima Valley AVA
On Sale $49.99
The Cabernet Sauvignon dominated (there’s a small amount of Cabernet Franc) 2015 L’Orage is another brilliant wine from this estate. Dried red currants, cedarwood, incense and lead pencil notes all flow to a ripe, sexy, medium to full-bodied Cabernet that has sweet tannin, impeccable balance, and a great finish. Drink this pleasure-bent beauty anytime over the coming decade.

2015 Sheridan Vineyard “Block 1,” Yakima Valley (ONLY ONE BOTTLE FOR SAMPLING!)
On Sale $112.99
The Cabernet Sauvignon dominated 2015 Block 1 is another sensational effort from winemaker Scott Greer. Brought up in 100% new barrels and hitting 14.1% natural alcohol, it offers up a heavenly perfume of crème de cassis, spicy oak, graphite, and tobacco. This gives way to a ripe, concentrated, plush Cabernet that has sweet tannin, a big, opulent texture, good acidity, and a great finish. It’s approachable today with a decant, but will be better in 2-3 years and keep for 15-20 years.

2017 Chateau Suduiraut “Le Blanc Sec de Suduiraut,” Bordeaux AOP
On Sale $19.99
Another terrific Bordeaux Blanc from the vintage is the 2017 Le Blanc Sec de Suduiraut, which is based on close to an even split of Sauvignon and Sémillon brought up in 34% barrels and the rest in tank. It offers a fresh, elegant style as well as plenty of grapefruit, citrus and lime aromas and flavors. It’s already delicious yet should keep for 4-5 years, if not longer.
