29 Jun Grower Champagne Tasting Sat. 7/1
Saturday, July 1
12 to 4pm
In our Event Space
Join us for one of our most anticipated tastings of the year, Terry Theise Champagnes! “Sunny” Brown will be our special guest for this free event. These estate-made Champagnes, affectionately called “farmer fizz,” are among the finest in the region. Forget about the mass-production houses like Veuve Clicquot. This is small-production wine made with love on the estates where the grapes are grown.
NV Aubry Brut Premier Cru Champagne, Montagne de Reims
On Sale $36.99
A smooth, gently round and nicely balanced Champagne dominant in pinot meunier, pinot noir and chardonnay to boot. It has attractive lemon citrus flavors and is really punchy, refined and gently nutty. A smooth, pastry-like texture comes to the fore on the finish. Drink now.

NV Gaston Chiquet “Tradition” Brut, Valle de la Marne
On Sale $44.99
The NV Brut Tradition is creamy, supple and inviting, all qualities that make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Dried flowers, chamomile, mint, pastry and orchard fruit, along with more exotic overtones, give the Tradition its distinctive personality. The current release is based on the 2010 vintage. Dosage is 8 grams per liter. Disgorged: January 2015.

NV Gaston Chiquet Brut Rose, Valle de la Marne
On Sale $49.99
Luminous pink-orange hue. Fine mousse. Nose of ripe red fruit, black cherry, and strawberry. Smooth and fresh palate (Meunier), red fruit, blackberry, cherry, finesse (Chardonnay), hint of lemon in the finish.
NV Pierre Peters Cuvee de Reserve Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut

Fragrant, with floral and mineral accents, this vibrant blanc de blancs shows tropical hints of passion fruit and guava layered with salted almond and honey notes. Finely knit, featuring a lasting, delicate finish. Disgorged January 2016. Drink now through 2020. 830 cases imported.

NV Vilmart Grand Cellier Brut 1er Cru
On Sale $69.99
Vibrant, finely cut acidity structures this seamlessly integrated version, backing layered flavors of poached apple, quince, honey, candied ginger, lemon zest and crème de cassis with hints of coconut and orchard blossom.

2009 Gimonnet Special Club, Cotes de Blancs
On Sale $89.99
Made from Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs, this intensely crisp and fresh wine is maturing well, although it’s nowhere near ready to drink. It is a fine wine: tight, steely, mineral in character with citrus acidity balanced by warmer apricot and crisp apples. Drink from 2018. The Special Club is a group of growers who rate and taste each other’s wines before release.

2005 Goutorbe Pere et Fils Special Club Grand Cru Brut
On Sale $79.99
The 2005 H Goutorbe Special Club Millésime Grand Cru Brut is made from 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay picked from fairly old vines cultivated in Aÿ. My sample (which I tasted at the Trésor Club degustation in Reims earlier this year) was disgorged in March 2014. It is a full-bodied, rich and well-structured champagne with intensity but also purity, freshness, finesse and elegance of fruit. The finish is impressive and powerful, and indicates a good aging potential. 20,000 bottles made. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.
