Gruner Veltliner Tasting

Sunday, April 17
1 to 4pm
At the Bar

Gruner Whatliner? Gruner Veltliner (GREW ner VELT lee ner) is a white grape variety grown primarily in Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. The schwarzbockleaves of the grape vine are five-lobed with bunches that are long but compact, and deep green (gruner) grapes that ripen in mid-late October. They make the perfect spring-picnic-porch aperitif wines and are a great alternative to Sauvignon Blanc. Taste them this Sunday!

“Schwarzböck produces a range of very clear, piquant, well focused and elegant whites. They are very delightful from the first second on and a great value…”

2014 Weingut Schwarzbock Gruner Veltliner Weinviertel DAC, Austria
On Sale $15.99
A Grüner Veltliner from an extremely stony vineyard partly on loess and on limy sandstone, the pale yellow-colored 2014 Weinviertel DAC Grüner Veltliner Aichleiten opens clear and fresh on the nose, displaying leafy and spicy flavors as well as white fruit aromas. Elegant, medium-bodied but full flavored and with a creamy texture, this is a well balanced, finesse full and mineral Grüner Veltliner; it finishes with a lovely purity and raciness, as well as a leafy aroma that reminds me of the Hungarian Harslevelü. Very authentic Grüner Veltliner from the Weinviertel character.

setzer2014 Weingut Setzer Gruner Veltliner, Austria
On Sale $13.99 ONE LITER!
The Setzer winery was founded in 1705, and remains one of the oldest continuously run estates in this part of the Weinviertel. These vineyards benefit from a higher than average altitude, 400 meters above sea level, significantly higher than vineyards in the neighboring regions of Kamptal and Wagram, only 15 kilometers away. On this raised seabed, vines are planted in light, sandy soils, high in chalky limestone, with a gravel rich subsoil.
