Alberto Pittatore, owner/winemaker for Bric Cenciurio in the heart of Barolo will be here to sample this exciting lineup:
2013 Bric Cenciurio Pittatore Barolo
On Sale $41.99
This wine is distinguished by its rich nose and tar aromas with a palate of bright fruit, rich acid and lingering tannins. Aged only in double sized barrique, they finish each vintage back in stainless for 6 months prior to bottle aging for a year.
2012 Bric Cenciurio Monrobiolo di Bussia
On Sale $59.99
With a production of less than 1,000 bottles per year , this Cru is one of the smallest in all of Barolo, Ruby Red color with garnet accents, the bouquet is complex with rich licorice and tobacco laced red fruits. Polished rich tannins and a hint of truffles and cherries. All southern exposition makes for rich and dense quality. Aged in Barrique because it is so small production.
NV Bric Cenciurio Birbet Bracchetto di Roero
On Sale $22.99
A special clone of Bracchetto grown in the Roero is used for their heighly aromatic Frizzante Red. So many fun applications for this wine that is simply an olfactory overload of Roses, berry jam, leading to the tongue with a perfectly clean burst of rich berry sweetness and a fresh splash of rose water. Try with spicy meats and sausages!
Anna Marie Ciccarone, who works with both Bocale and Bric Cenciurio, will be here to sample from a third exciting project from Aglianico, Tenuta Il Gelsi:
2016 Tenuta Il Gelsi Gelso Rosso
On Sale $15.99
This is an Aglianico 100% wine as well, from young vines and selected grapes for a easy-to-drink wine, for this main grape variety of South Italy. Aged in stainless steel tanks only.
2011 Tenuta Il Gelsi Aglianico del Vulture
On Sale $22.99
It’s the main red wine of the winery, from a selection of the best grapes, mainly from the oldest estate (40year old). It’s Aglianico 100%, harvested in late October and aged for 12 months in 1/2year-old-barriques and 12 more months in 30hl-Slavonian oak casks.
And Jason Ledbetter of Tavolo Vigneto will sample two digestivos:
On Sale $32.99
This blood-orange Amara, made in Sicily from oranges grown near Mt. Etna, is simply gorgeous. With dominant orange notes and less bitterness than a traditional Amaro, it is versatile and works well in cocktails as a complex and nuanced replacement for orange liqueur or triple sec. It also drinks beautifully as an after-dinner digestivo.
1988 Curatolo Arini Marsala Secco Reserve
On Sale $31.99
The 1988 Vintage summer was very dry and warm and by mid to late September, expectations were high for a very good vintage. An excellent year in Sicily that produced as a result this eclectic wine which is an expression of harmony. This selected blend of Grillo and Catarratto grapes has been the family’s well-regarded secret for years. Bright, gold colored wine with intense amber hints and a complex nose of dates, apricot syrup and spices. Full, warm and velvety on the palate with notes of sultanas, caramel and burnt almonds and a very long finish.
As if this wasn’t enough, we’re also highlighting a producer from Alto Adige named Elena Walch, whose work with several native grapes is helping to bring attention to this superb winemaking region of Italy. And we’re including a few bonus wines as well!
“Elena Walch is an immensely popular producer who has waved the wand of international winemaking over much of Alto Adige. Her modern approach (high-density planting, high extracts and barrique aging) constitutes its own school of thought that is now followed by numerous disciples.”
The Wine Advocate

2013 Tenuta Sant’Antonio Scaia Paradiso, Valpolicella
On Sale $16.99
This fascinating wine is an Amarone style red blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Notes of cherry and berries on the nose lead to a palate of candied red fruits, spicy black pepper, licorice, and cocoa. Soft and supple on the palate.
