2016 Domaine Marc Colin Chardonnay Bourgogne AOP
On Sale $23.99
This entry level white shows beautifully in the glass, with a terrific nose of white peach, citrus fruits, and minerals, plus a toasty nuance. There is a lovely creaminess to this wine, but the style is unquestionably French in its dry, medium bodied (and quite long) finish. It is a clear overachiever within its group.
2015 Domaine Meo-Camuzet Monopole “Clos St. Philibert,” Hautes Cotes de Nuits Blanc AOP
On Sale $34.99
This is a RARE Monopole (only one owner, i.e. supreme fruit selection) vineyard. It sits high above the Grand Cru Echezeaux and its stone covered rows look more like a Rhone vineyard than Burgundy! This rare cuvee is Chardonnay with around 5% Pinot Blanc; all fermented and matured in oak (around 10% new). The nose is gorgeous, with ripe pear, pineapple, and subtle wood spices. In the mouth this is an obvious candidate for early consumption. It’s already showing well, with loads of crisp orchard fruits and a tropical flavor bringing complexity. The acidity is spot on!
2016 Domaine Paul Pernot Puligny Montrachet AOP
On Sale $59.99
A smoky nose displays notes of honeysuckle, lavender, and the essence of pear. The caressing and succulent medium-bodied flavors possess an enveloping mouth feel while exhibiting a subtle salinity on the refreshing and sneaky long finale. Note that this is sufficiently fruit forward to be enjoyed young if that’s your fruit preference.
2016 Domaine Francois Lamarche Bourgogne Rouge AOP
On Sale $26.99
A almost liqueur-like, black cherry nose with spices and damp earth. Great richness for the humble Bourgogne appellation! A bit youthfully and tight thanks to ample acidity, but still showing its exotic qualities and dark fruit flavors. More tannic than expected, this over-performer for its category has an element of power that reminds me of a village wine. Finishes with great tannin. This has another 5 years easy!
2016 Chateau de la Maltroye Chassagne Montrachet Rouge AOP
On Sale $44.99
A trace of reduction is insufficient to mask the peppery and earthy aromas of dark currant and plum. The sleek, intense and more voluminous flavors also possess a slightly finer mouth feel while displaying very fine depth and persistence on the balanced and well-detailed finale. This too is very good for its level.
89-91 Points, Burghound
2015 Domaine Rene Leclerc Gevrey Chambertin AOP
On Sale $46.99
This village boasts more Grand Cru real estate than ANYWHERE else in Burgundy! Some very ripe notes of cherry, raspberries, strawberry, and smoky minerals all jump out of the glass with some air. It’s still tight as a drum but the potential is there. In the mouth you’ll feel the concentration of the vintage with captivating soil-driven flavors of black raspberry, violet, and mocha. Finishes spicy and very long, with a streak of acidity and tannin. So silky and youthfully restrained! This saturates the palate, with lingering spicy notes providing complexity. It’s virtually impossible to find this style of Pinot outside Burgundy!
