2017 Arndorfer Zweigelt Rosé, Kamptal
On Sale $16.99
If you are looking for a wine that stands out in the sea of light and easy-going summer sippers, this mercurial, savory rosé from the loess and gravel soils of Austria’s Kamptal region is exactly what you need! Made predominately from the juicy and spicy Zweigelt grape, which lends refreshing notes of plush cherry and blackberry, the inclusion of Gruner Veltiner skins and partial aging in neutral oak results in a pronounced and alluring texture which is reinforced by a firm spine of minerality.
2016 Bodegas Finca la Estacada Tinto Velasco “Ocho y Medio,” Vino de la Tierra de Castilla
On Sale $9.99
An exciting rarity, this formerly popular regional grape variety (Valesco) now has only 50 hectares planted in the world! A long growing period requires the grapes to stay on the vine until late October or November. No herbicides or pesticides are employed here, but Todd uses algae from the Spanish coast as natural protection from insects. Fermentation is spontaneous, and sulfur (at bottling) is extremely low. The resulting wine is delicious: savory and juicy with a similar berryish tang to a Malbec but more earth tones and lingering flavors. This is an AWESOME bargain!
2015 Androvic Plavac Mali, Peljecsac, Croatia
On Sale $17.99
This Croatian red comes from a family winery that’s been producing wine for over 100 years, only recently releasing it to the open market. The Plavac Mali grape (translated as “small blue”) is very close to Zinfandel in character and genetics, with a little more lightness and finesse. This wine is a celebration of the Croatian wine traditions and winemaker Mario Andovic is following the exact methods his ancestors used to produce wine, including using 70-year-old barrels! The wine is natural and rustic, but clean and polished. We recommend refrigerating this wine for about 30 minutes before serving.
