Saturday, April 13
12 to 4pm
In our Event Space
It’s going to be a grand ole time this Saturday as we welcome St. Louis native Cal Nicholson and the winemaker for Nicholson Jones, Covert, Purlieu, and Le Pich wineries, Julien Fayard to the store to pour some spectacular Napa Cabs, Chards, and Sauvignon Blanc. Julien cut his teeth winemaking at Lafite-Rothschild as well as with all-star consultant and winemaker Philippe Melka. With Purlieu, Julien has cracked the elusive 100 point mark in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate for the first time in his career. This is a rare opportunity to sample some of these soon to be cult Napa wines.
2016 Nicholson Jones Sauvignon Blanc, St Helena
On Sale $23.99
The nose displays classic notes of passion fruit, sweet pepper, fresh herbs and white peach. Lemon, apricot and green apple show on the pallet revealing balanced acid and good minerality. The riper fruit elements maintain an equilibrium with the terroir, allowing for a versatility that speaks to the lush and ripe environments of California as well as the classical food friendly Sauvingnon Blancs of the Loire Valley, a welcome addition to either patio or pairing.
2014 Nicholson Jones Chardonnay “Dolly Hill,” Carneros
The 2013 Dolly Hill is pale white gold in color with green glints. The nose shows a complex floral note from the extended time on it’s lees. Over-steeped chamomile tea gives way to classic yellow apple, ripe pear and melon aromas. The palate is full bodied, yet crisp. The melon and apple really come through with almond and hazelnut playing a complicating role. There’s a Chablis like character to the long, smokey, mineral laced finish.
2015 Nicholson Jones Proprietary Cuvee, Napa Valley
On Sale $54.99
The nose on this vintage is particularly opulent with aromas of cinnamon and nutmeg, lush red and black fruit, and a perfume of violet and Madagascar vanilla. A cascade of black cherry and currant washes over the palate, along with hints of red berries that provide some lift to the ripe fruit dominant profile. Mouth watering acid follows, giving this wine charm and personality that’s atypical of such forward styles. Ultra fine tannins and a silky mouthfeel lead to a long finish, resulting in a wine that is ultimately powerful, balanced, and seductive.
2013 Nicholson Jones Syrah “Sugarloaf,” Napa Valley
On Sale $69.99
Rich aromas of ripe blackberries, black pepper, lavender and tobacco leaves lead a bursting of juicy blackberries and velvety tannins on the palate. Hints of cassis and pepper on the finish linger in balance with the mouthwatering fruit and minerality. The deeply expressive Sugarloaf vineyard has produced yet another age-worthy Syrah to enjoy for years to come.
2012 Nicholson Jones Cabernet Sauvignon, Coombsville
On Sale $112.99
The 2012 Nicholson Jones Cabernet is a deep glass-staining purple, showing rings of ruby as it moves towards the edge of the glass. Vanilla bean and cassis on the nose mingle with blackberry jam, cinnamon and spice. Ripe and explosively opulent, juicy cherries and plums combine with blackberry and currant, again expressing their concentration on the pallet. This wine is full bodied and rich, with silky tannins and a long sweet finish. Decant two to three hours for full expression of aromatics.
2013 Nicholson Jones Cabernet Sauvignon “Sugarloaf,” Napa Valley
On Sale $134.99
A deep purple to ruby as it approaches the edge of the glass, this wine is quite visually remarkable. Sweet aromas of vanilla, cassis, black cherry and baking spices are marked in the nose along with notes of violets, licorice, earth, and cigar box. Rich layers of currant, blackberry and kirsch mingle on the palate as they meet a solid core of balanced acidity and very fine tannins. This wine is full bodied, plush and opulent with big structure but can be enjoyed now given sufficient air, or cellared to develop further and enjoy in the coming years.
2014 Covert Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Coombsville
On Sale $159.99
The 2014 Estate Cabernet is a Classic Coombsville Cabernet: Full of rich black fruit, an elegant velvety texture and unparalleled freshness.
