29 Aug Oddball US Wine Tasting
Saturday, August 31
12 to 4pm
In our Event Space
We’ve selected some unique wines to sample this Saturday! Some are grapes not typically planted in their region, some are simply made from obscure grapes or lost clones, and a few are made in contrasting styles. This will be fun and educational…because learning is always fun when drinking is involved!
2015 Ravines Dry Riesling, Finger Lakes, New York
On Sale $9.99
Still youthfully tight, this brims with tension as the long, minerally spine holds the core of yellow apple, star fruit and white peach flavors together. Shows serious cut and drive on the finish, with a mouthwatering echo of dried fennel seed. Best from 2018 through 2022.

2018 Birichino Malvasia Bianco, Central Coast AVA
On Sale $14.99
This is a truly delicious, fragrant and perfumed white! It’s 100% Malvasia Bianca and made entirely in stainless steel. It immediately delivers an explosive bouquet of tropical citrus, melon, flowers, and exotic herbal notes. It’s still medium-bodied, fresh and squeaky clean, super juicy with bright acidity, and bone dry, with hidden length and an unexpected snap luring you back for another sip. Drink it now.
2016 Muddy Arch Roussanne, California
On Sale $19.99
This is from STL local and friend Chris Leonard of the Leonard Wine Co. Comprised of 100% of the rarely planted (outside of France) Roussanne varietal from top Northern California vineyard sites. Chris looks to expose the nuances of these local NorCal microclimates. It’s a classy, classic wine with so much style. You’ll think you’re drinking a top notch Saint Joseph Blanc. He achieves this by utilizing balanced Roussanne grapes that are less ripe by California standards. The end result is a lean and precise white wine that express a spectrum of notes from pungent stone fruit to brimming citrus with dark honey and spice on the finish.
2018 Sleight of Hand Cellars “Magician’s Assistant,” Rosé of Cabernet Franc, Yakima Valley AVA
On Sale $16.99
Composed of 100% Cabernet Franc from Blackrock Vineyard in the Yakima Valley, our 2018 Magician’s Assistant Rosé is fresh and inviting, with its beautiful salmon pink hue and aromas and flavors of pomegranate, white flowers, and Spring rain, all buoyed by a backbone of minerality and acid. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in neutral barrels.
2017 Birichino “Saint Georges Old Vines” Zinfandel, Central Coast AVA
On Sale $22.99
A stunning and unique Zinfandel, from a vineyard planted in 1922, tucked up right against the leeward side of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Thanks to a long, wet winter, and with some Edward Scissorhands-esque canopy management, the zinfandel escaped many of the challenges of prior vintages. Its unusually cool location, on decomposed granite and clay soils, allows for the possibility of making zinfandel that retains vivacity and freshness. While this cool site presents challenges given the variety’s infernally tight clusters, thin skin, and proclivity to bunch rot, botrytis, and uneven ripening, it proves worth the effort. Pale red in color with purity and freshness, it is bright, briary and sappy.
2018 Division Béton Red, Oregon
On Sale $19.99
The blend is 60% Cabernet Franc, 15% Pinot Noir, 15% Gamay Noir and 10% Malbec (or Côt, as it’s known in the Loire). Tannic and tight, the low alcohol (12.5%)is the tip-off to lightly ripened red fruits-rhubarb and salmonberry. Astringent green tea flavors dominate as the tannins take hold in the finish.
