Orin Swift Tasting Sat. 3/17

15 Mar Orin Swift Tasting Sat. 3/17

Saturday, March 17
12 to 4pm
In our Event Space

We’re tasting through Orin Swift’s globally sourced “Location” wines this Saturday! Dave Phinney is a “jet set” winemaker. As the seasons are reversed in the two hemispheres, he’s able to complete the northern harvest and zip down south just in time to begin their harvest. The result is a selection of offerings that zigzag the entire Earth! We’re starting at noon and going until four. Come on by and we’ll pour you a glass.

“This new project, called Locations, is the brainchild of Dave Phinney of Orin-Swift Cellars. It is anti-vintage and anti-terroir, but most importantly, bullish on quality. Of course, if you’re going to yak terroir, transparency, and all the insufferable and pretentious wine speak that makes some wine tastings unbearable, these offerings will not “float your boat.”
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“As of now, Dave Phinney might be my “value winemaker of the year” candidate. If there are better wines for under $20 a bottle in the world today, please share that information with the Wine Advocate.”

Lush and full in texture, this wine has more spicy flavors than fruity ones, as a blend of vanilla, hazelnut and cream coat the palate. It has the rich feel of barrel fermentation and will win friends with the layering of subtleties on such a decadent mouthfeel.

Orin Swift Locations F-5 (France)
On Sale $16.99
Locations F French Red Wine is a blend of Grenache from the Roussillon, Syrah from the Rhone Valley and assorted Bordeaux varieties. It was fermented in large oak vats and aged in barrel for ten months prior to bottling. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by a big, sweet kiss of licorice, black currants and camphor. Deep, full-bodied and ripe (but not over-ripe), it possesses good freshness, vibrancy and delineation as well as a juicy, in-your-face style. These wines are all meant to be drunk upon release, but enough stuffing is present that they should evolve for 4-5 years.

It has the same fermentation and upbringing as the French and Italian wines. Majestic, soaring black fruit aromas intermixed with forest floor, white flowers and kirsch emerge from this full-bodied, opulent, voluptuously textured red along with stunning richness and depth.

Orin Swift Locations AR-6 (Argentina)
On Sale $16.99
AR is comprised primarily of Malbec, with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon in the mix. The unique climate of the Uco Valley in Mendoza produces Malbec with concentrated berries that reflect the brilliance, depth, and intensity of the neighboring Andes themselves. The Cabernet Sauvignon increases complexity and adds dimension, bringing the blend around full circle. Despite the twenty-four-hour trip to get there, and the logistics involved with getting the wine here, it’s wholly worth the effort to partake in this gripping endeavor.

Beautiful dusty plum hue sits in the glass with bursting aromas of black plum and raspberries, floral notes of lilac and rose complemented by hints of cedar, black tea and slate.
