2016 Anselmo Mendes “Muros Antigos” Alvarinho, Moncao e Melgaco, Portugal
On Sale $16.99
The 2016 Alvarinho Muros Antigos is unoaked and comes in at 12.5% alcohol. This is a terrific value, and there is enough of it to be easily obtainable. Showing fine concentration and plenty of zing and zest on the finish, this is emphasizing freshness and acidity in its youth. It also has the body to absorb the power; but make no mistake, the intensity here is special, and this is built to age. Focused, transparent and simply gripping, I have to lean up on this in its youth. I suspect it won’t disappoint, but it is mightily impressive now for sure….

2015 Alveirao “EVG” Red Tejo, Portugal
On Sale $14.99
EVG – is not a medical exam! Instead it stands for Encostas do Vale Godinho, the regional appellation for this wine. This is a stunning blend of Trincadeira, Castelão & Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo). Winemaking takes a minimal approach, using native yeasts, no new oak, and all farming is organic and bio-dynamic. The wine is ultra fresh and already complex. We had a bottle open for 3 days and it continued to improve! Earth, mineral, and underbrush take the front seat. Tart blackberries and fresh herbs on the nose turn to a more tannic, and more tart raspberry profile on the palate. Pair with mushrooms of any kind, ANYTHING from Nudo Ramen (shout out to our boy Qui!), beans and burritos.
