Join us as we welcome special guest Brad Duncan to taste George Remus Bourbons! George Remus, known as “The King of Bootleggers,” created an empire in the 1920s making the BEST bourbon for “medicinal” purposes. Today the label is an homage to the spirit of those who got around the rules and did their thing during prohibition. We’ll sample the flagship bourbon along with two other bottlings from the distillery.

George Remus Straight Bourbon
The sweetness of syrupy fruit salad leads on the nose, with brown sugar, spearmint, and rye spice. The palate is smooth and easy, although a bit light, with more spice, crisp apples, and berries. The finish offers char and maple syrup, and a combination of Luxardo cherries and orange zest which lends an enjoyably smooth Old Fashioned quality to the whiskey on the backend. This straight bourbon is a blend of high-rye bourbons aged for a minimum of four years. Bottled at 47% ABV.

George Remus “Repeal Reserve” Straight Bourbon
With barely a whiff of sweetness, the nose belies the nature of the whiskey. Sweetness rises to a strong level on the palate with vanilla and baking spices initially, then builds to stone fruit. Mouthfeel is gentle and pleasant. The finish transitions from sweet to spice-forward with clove, cinnamon and tobacco. It is a blend of high-rye bourbons all distilled at MGP in Indiana. These bourbons are as follows: 50% 2005 bourbon with 21% rye; 15% 2006 bourbon with 36% rye; and 35% 2006 bourbon with 21% rye. Bottled at 47% ABV.
