25 Jan S. African Aperitif Tasting Sat. 1/27
Saturday, January 27
1 to 4pm
At the Bar
This Saturday we’ll sample an exotic, hand made South African white vermouth from the A.A. Badenhorst winery in the Swartland region. This is truly stunning stuff and we’re excited to share! Our resident expert on all things booze Rob Marchant will be on hand to sample this yummy aperitif and answer any questions you might have.
More on this unique spirit from Badenhorst’s website:
“For almost a century mixologists and barmen have been looking for Caperitif, the ‘ghost ingredient’ found in numerous cocktail recipes but not produced anywhere in the world. In 2014 a Danish mixologist approached us with the idea to recreate it and together we have given birth to the 21st century version of this truly unique Cape Aperitif.”
A.A. Badenhorst NV Caperitif Kaapse Dief #5, Swartland, South Africa
Copper-orange color. Knockout, endlessly complex perfume of orange blossom, cinnamon Red Hots, clove, ginger and mint. A silky, umami-like texture is utterly seamless and smooth. Hints of griotte cherry, orange zest, fynbos and tree bark are lifted by a strong spicy character. Wonderfully complex, moderately sweet and long, with a finishing note of bitter orange giving the finish a drier quality and great refreshment value. I bet you can’t drink just one glass.
