Sauvignon Blanc Sale

Overproduction in New Zealand and lackluster production in California has caused Sauvignon Blanc to fall out of favor in the wine world. This is actually a great thing for fans of this ancient French grape, because it means many of the greatest examples are now available for less money than they’re worth. These world-class Sauvignon Blancs are examples of how excellent the grape can be in the hands of the right winemakers. Of particular interest to us are the amazing German (yes, German!!) versions from von Winning, all rare and only available to us for a limited time.

From Germany

2015 von Winning Sauvignon Blanc “II” Pfalzwinning sb
On Sale $18.99
Primarily sourced from a famous vineyard called Paradiesgarten (German for “garden of paradise”). The “II” means stainless steel only. Typically sold in Germany only……and the Wine Merchant! We get one shot a year to get this wine and it’ll be gone quickly. This wine is a dead ringer for a Sancerre but at half the price! Lemon pith, chalky mineral notes and a super crisp, dry finish beg for pairing with scallops or roasted chicken.

2013 von Winning Sauvignon Blanc “I” Pfalz
On Sale $31.99
This one is also mainly sourced from the Paradiesgarten vineyard. The “I” means selected from both cask and steel. Here we begin to see the real power of the grape in this region. It displays unreal texture for Sauvignon Blanc and an almost golden color. An awesome nose of white flowers, brown spices and ripe, tropical fruits. The palate is where the classic Sauvignon flavors really shine through. At this price you’re not going to find anything that compares. This is on par with a great 1er cru Burgundy from Meursault. Stunning!

2013 von Winning Sauvignon Blanc “500” Pfalz
On Sale $52.99
Simply put this wine is among the GREATEST SAUVIGNON BLANCS MADE. I would put this wine with the likes of Didier Dagueneau’s Pouilly-Fumé ($200+ a bottle) and Château Pape-Clement blanc (also $200+ a bottle). Seriously. If you like white wine do yourself a favor and grab some of this! 500 refers to vinification in 500 liter barrique or “Halbstück” in German. It’s a selection of the best casks, from a plant-density of 9,500 vines per hectare-as in the Europe of 100 years ago-and all from the Paradiesgarten vineyard. It’s a knockout nose of smoke, flowers, and minerals. I think the pedigree is proven by how discreet the wood is. It’s truly a Grand Cru wine minus the tripe digit price tag!”

2014 Domaine Plouzeau Touraine, Loire Valley, France
On Sale $13.99
We are in love with this french “bistro” wine! Loire Valley is the #1 region in France for “foodie” wines. We think this one over delivers at the dinner table. Here’s what our friend Peter Weygandt had to say… “Domaine Plouzeau is situated on the “rive gauche” of Chinon. The vineyards are all certified organic, and low yields combined with vinification directed towards emphasizing fruit produces a fresh fruit blast on the palate. The wines are bottled unfiltered to preserve the maximum fruit levels.”

2005 Pape Clement Blanc, Graves (Very limited!!)
On Sale $199.99
An outstanding combination of 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Semillon, this full-bodied, dry white boasts copious quantities of lemon grass, honeysuckle, and apple notes backed up by hints of wood, quince, and nectarines. Concentrated, with admirable acidity, richness, and a more forward style than its neighbors, Laville Haut-Brion and Haut-Brion, this beauty can be enjoyed now and over the next 10-15 years.
