Along with other treats, this Saturday we’re pouring new labels from one of our favorite Italian wineries….Scarpetta. These stunning wines are created by rock star chef Lachlan Patterson and legendary Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey. This new project hails from the isle of Sicily. Additionally, we’re pouring new releases from the iconic Rioja producer Lopez de Heredia and a few other Spanish favorites. Come on by between noon and four!

2016 Squadra Bianco, Terre Siciliane IGT
On Sale $9.99
Organically farmed, 70% Catarratto & 30% Grillo–both indigenous island varieties. The light straw color comes from limited skin contact. The wine is highly aromatic with notes of golden apples, ripe banana, and lemon zest. The wine is super fresh, showing a hint of fresh summer herbs and ripe yellow peach flavors. The finish displays good length and juicy fruit. When it comes to climates suited for growing grapes, the island of Sicily is unrivaled.

2015 Squadra Rosato, Terre Siciliane IGT
On Sale $9.99
Organic, indigenous grapes were used to produce a bright copper-tinged pink “porch pounder.” Fruity and floral aromas spring from the glass with loads of pomegranate and hibiscus. It’s bright and juicy in the mouth, with a mineral twist to the delicate red berry and sweet herb flavors. The finish is long and saline with a slightly tactile mouthfeel. An above average, steal of a Rosato, made from 100% Nerello Mascalese grapes.

2015 Squadra Rosso, Terre Siciliane IGT
On Sale $9.99
70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah, and 10% Merlot. The rosso is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, a “super Sicilian?” Medium-bodied with ripe red fruits and hints of baking spices, this tastes old-world and tannic without being a wool sweater in your mouth. Give it some breathing room and it softens into a cozy cardigan. This is delicious and PERFECT for the warm weather!

2016 Columna Albariño, Riax Baixas DO
On Sale $14.99
The goal in producing Columna is to showcase the purity of the Albariño grape in a 100% unoaked style. Highly aromatic with fresh melon and pear on the exotic nose, with floral and herbal qualities adding complexity. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering vibrant fuji apple and white peach flavors along with hints of fennel and honeysuckle. The smooth, clinging finish shows a lingering pit fruit character. This is an excellent example of why this is such an important region and grape to know.

2005 Lopez de Heredia Reserva “Vina Tondonia,” Rioja DO
On Sale $39.99
The 2005 Viña Tondonia Reserva is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, 5% Graciano, and 5% Mazuelo from their vineyards along the Ebro River, where they have some 100 hectares of plots planted. The wine is fermented in the original oak vats that are now 140 some years of age. I think the quality gap between the Reserva and Gran Reserva has been getting smaller since the 2001 vintage and this 2005 is nothing short of exceptional. It’s clean and complex, with more freshness. The wine is very spicy and with a palate that feels very balanced, livelier than in the past. It has a long finish where the flavors are clean. Easy to drink and very pleasurable.
