Join us this Saturday to taste and learn about the different regions and grapes used to produce world-class wines in both Spain and Portugal! We’re featuring wines from small, family-owned and operated, boutique wineries. Spain and Portugal have reputations for delivering amazing quality at humble prices, and this lineup surely does that!

2016 Columna Albarino, Riax Baixas DO

The goal in producing Columna is to showcase the purity of the Albariño grape in a 100% unoaked style. Highly aromatic with fresh melon and pear on the exotic nose, with floral and herbal qualities adding complexity. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering vibrant fuji apple and white peach flavors along with hints of fennel and honeysuckle. The smooth, clinging finish shows a lingering pit fruit character. This is an excellent example of why this is such an important region and grape to know.

2014 Ludovicus Tinto, Terra Alta DO

(aged for four months in French and American oak) Deep red. Fresh red berry and candied rose scents are lent urgency by mineral and peppery spice notes. Juicy and incisive on the palate, offering gently sweet raspberry, cherry and spicecake flavors that demonstrate an appealing marriage of power and finesse. Finishes gently tannic and long, leaving behind a subtle suggestion of red fruit liqueur.

2015 Bodegas La Cartuja Tinto, Priorat DO

(aged for six months in French oak) Brilliant ruby. Ripe dark berries, licorice, smoky minerals and a hint of succulent flowers on the perfumed nose. Juicy, round and open-knit; a peppery note adds lift and cut to warm blackberry, bitter cherry and licorice pastille flavors. The long, mineral-accented finish shows very good focus and closes on a youthfully tannic note, leaving cherry pit and floral notes behind.

2016 Aplanta Red Blend, Alentejo

A unique blend of 70% Aragonez, 30% Alicante Bouschet. Dark garnet tinged purple. On the nose, lush blueberry, plum and black cherry aromas but also complex with earth, slate and mineral. On the palate, a core of red cherries and blueberry is propped up by notes of fresh pipe tobacco, black pepper and dark spices. It’s incredibly plush and silky but the old world nature of it is what makes this very reasonable red such a home run.

2014 Álvaro Castro “Dac Tinto”, Dao

We love this classic Dão blend! The blend includes indigenous grapes like Alfrocheiro and Jaen. This is produced by top winemaker Alvaro Castro, is had harvested and uses native yeasts for fermentation. A year in oak has given it richness and a smooth, almost velvety character without loosing its freshness. Underneath this surface, the tannins are all there, balancing the ripe fruit finish. It will develop for years in your cellar too! This is totally a hidden gem.
