13 May Super Tuscans
From Italy, we have some awesome Super Tuscans today including the “Il Pino,” a label from the former owner of the famous Ornellaia, along with Ornellaia’s flagship wine itself. And as a bonus, a gorgeous Rosso from Podere Giodo (who made a perfect 100 point Brunello in the 2010 vintage). The Giodo is not to be overlooked just because it didn’t get rated by the critics; this is serious juice.
2013 Lodovico Antinori Biserno “Il Pino,” Tuscany
On Sale $49.99
The 2013 Il Pino di Biserno is a gorgeous wine with a force of energy and liveliness that is uncommon to see in a wine of this extract and sophistication. Dark fruit tones of blackberry, plum and dried cherry are immediately followed by spice, leather and tobacco. The effect is soothing, intense and compelling. This is a beautiful wine from a classic vintage, but the tannins are definitely on the young side. It needs a minimum of three to five more years of cellar aging in order to show the splendor that this wine holds within.

2013 Tenuta Ornellaia “Ornellaia,” Bolgheri
On Sale $169.99
Amazing graphite and violet aromas with dark fruits. Medium to full body, ultra-velvety tannins and a long and beautiful finish. Formed and tight. I love the fresh ginger underneath it all. This has a cool profile to the wine. So approachable yet this has wonderful length.

2013 Giodo Toscana Rosso, IGT
On Sale $49.99
This impressive rosso comes from vineyards close to famed winemaker Carlo Ferrini’s Brunello di Montalcino, but from land that does not hold the Montalcino designation. This is a pure Sangiovese that is wonderfully supple, multi-layered, and concentrated. It has been aged in a combination of older barrels.
