Waits-Mast Pinot Noir Tasting Tues. 12/5

30 Nov Waits-Mast Pinot Noir Tasting Tues. 12/5

Tuesday, December 5
5 to 7pm
At the Bar

This Tuesday we’ll be pouring the oh-so rare and tasty Pinots of Waits-Mast with winery owner Brian Mast. They are a very small operation, and the wines are made by the team at Roar Winery (one of our favorites in Santa Lucia!). Under the guiding hand of Scott Shapley Wait-Mast has created Pinot like none other we’ve tasted from this region. Wines arrive early next week!

2013 Waits-Mast Pinot Noir “Wentzel Vineyard,” Anderson Valley
On Sale $49.99
This wine is smooth, delicious and almost soft in texture. Mild aromas and flavors like cinnamon, red cherry and peach are very attractive, with just enough light tannins and mild acidity to back them up.

2013 Waits-Mast Pinot Noir “Deer Meadows Vineyard,” Anderson Valley
On Sale $49.99
Intricate aromas like dried leaves, dried cherries and cloves lead to clearly defined fruit flavors layered with cinnamon and cedar notes in this distinctive wine. The texture is gentle, the body not too full, and the mouthfeel is generous and soothing.
94 Points, The Wine Enthusiast

2013 Waits-Mast Pinot Noir “Mariah Vineyard,” Mendocino Ridge
On Sale $39.99
A light garnet color and layers of classic aromas like tea, rhubarb, cherry and a nice walk-in-the-pines element segue to gentle cherry, raspberry and black tea in this medium-bodied, elegant wine. It’s also classic in the sense that complexity and drinkability rule over sheer power.

2014 Waits-Mast Pinot Noir “Oppenlander,” Mendocino Ridge
On Sale $39.99
Coming from a singular vineyard along the Mendocino coast, this wine has smoky savory flavors that complement the just-ripe fruit flavors and give a truly maverick but easy-to-enjoy personality. It is medium bodied, velvet textured, and has good structure, fine-grained tannins and enough concentration for a lingering finish.

2014 Waits-Mast Pinot Noir “Nash Mill,” Mendocino Ridge
On Sale $36.99
Warm spicy wintertime scents like cinnamon, clove and nutmeg meet baked fruit flavors and a broad soothing texture in this full-bodied wine. The color has an amber tint at the rim, the texture is absolutely mouth-filling but gentle, and the finish lingers nicely. The husband-wife winemaking duo let native yeast ferment the wine, and then aged it in 33% new French barrels from Remond.
