2010 Giodo Brunello di Montalcino
On Sale $159.99 (Lowest Price on Winesearcher is $179.99!)
This is a phenomenal Brunello from the personal vineyard of famous consulting enologist Carlo Ferrini. It shows such a richness and depth that I have seldom found in pure sangiovese. Full-bodied, yet balanced and dense, it shows so much cherry, floral and minerally character. Citrus, too. It was aged 24 months in used 500-liter oak barrels. Only 3,000 bottles we made.

2010 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany… Limited!
On Sale $75.99
I really appreciate the dark berry and burnt orange aromas that follow through to a full body, with very integrated tannins and a ripe and juicy fruit character. Savory, succulent and salty. Hints of chocolate and salted nuts. So juicy and gorgeous. A fabulous red.

2010 Fattoria dei Barbi Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany
On Sale $42.99
Aromas burnt orange peel and cherry with hints of dried bark and mahogany. Full body, very tight and dense with a beautiful fruit, tannin and acid balance. Finesse and strength. Best wine from here for ages. Needs until 2018 to show its true quality.

2010 Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino “Rennina”
On Sale $149.99
An outstanding surprise, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a monumental wine. The Rennina single vineyard is said to be more feminine compared to the bolder fruit sourced in the nearby Sugarille cru. But in the 2010 vintage, you definitely get a compelling sense of power, density and extraction. What distinguishes the wine is the delicate mineral signature that appears through the thick texture of the fruit. It’s like background music that gives cozy ambiance to an elaborately furnished ballroom. I consider the 2010 Rennina a masterpiece and, again, I just don’t know how Angelo Gaja does it. He is the winemaker with the Midas touch. Truth be told, the wine does lack territory-driven typicity. But it’s just so darn good, it hardly matters. It will continue its evolution for 10-20 years. Congratulations.

2010 Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino “Sugarille”
On Sale $164.99
“The Gaja family’s 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Sugarille opens to striking intensity and beauty that is apparent even as you pour the wine from the bottle. The wine’s appearance is dark and so perfectly saturated with dark garnet and ruby highlights. On the nose, it shows infinite aromas of dark fruit, plum, dried figs, licorice, grilled herbs, cola and so much more. The complexity is outstanding. The Sugarille single vineyard delivers power and structure that gives this wine such a firm presence on the palate. But you also get a great sense of the quality of fruit that was harvested in 2010. Angelo Gaja skipped the 2009 vintage. But this vintage makes up for the loss with its long aging potential. This is an amazing wine to put way at the back of your cellar for ten years or more. What a delight.”

2012 Isole e Olena Cepparello, Toscana….6 bottles left
On Sale $66.99
The 2012 Cepparello is magnificent. Radiant, pliant and super-expressive, the 2012 offers magnificent intensity, with silky tannins wrapped around a core of rich, dark-toned fruit. The intensity of the fruit suggests a warm vintage, but the structure is more medium in body and typical of a cooler year. Today, the 2012 gives the impression it will drink well pretty much upon release, but history has taught me Cepparello often shuts down in bottle. Either way, the 2012 is superb.

2011 Isole e Olena Cabernet Sauvignon Collezione Privata, Toscana
On Sale $64.99
The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Collezione Privata is superb. Black cherry jam, crème de cassis, smoke, plums, menthol, licorice and violets form a stunning backdrop as the 2011 opens up in the glass. Sumptuous and layered yet also quite fresh (especially for the year), the 2011 possesses superb balance and exceptional finesse. The intensity of the fruit nearly buries the tannins, but they are there. My impression is that the 2011 will offer a long and wide window of pure drinking pleasure.
