Alsace is one of the world’s greatest white wine regions, and yet it gets very little attention. Well, let’s change that! We have a stellar lineup from a new favorite producer, and experts on hand to taste with you and answer questions. We’ll sample Alsatian bubbles all the way up to Grand Cru. Yum! For the red selections were going to take a serious look at Beaujolais and the Cotes de Nuits in Burgundy! We’ll sample both Pinot Noir and Gamay Noir. This will be delicious.

2017 Domaine Jean-Louis et Fabienne Mann Sylvaner “Mouton Bleu,” Alsace AOP

Energetic pale green. Chlorophyll, quince jelly, lime and coriander on the fresh, inviting nose. Then long and fresh with a multilayered quality to mineral-enhanced flavors similar to the aromas. Very pretty wine with above-average concentration and purity. This is made from very old vines (45-70 years old); its name is that of a single plot that was called mouton bleu (blue mutton) by one of the vineyard hands.

2015 Domaine Dublere Savigny-Les-Beaune “Les Planchot du Nord”

Discreet notes of wood and menthol set off earthy dark currant and forest floor scents. There is a slightly finer texture to the medium weight flavors that are at once rich but focused while offering just a bit more overall depth and length on the balanced and slightly firmer finale.

2013 Domaine Dublere Volnay “Taillepieds”

Despite there being no new wood used in 2013 this displays a touch of oak anyway though it’s sufficiently subtle that it doesn’t impair the appreciation of the very fresh, spicy and cool aromas of violet, plum and dark currant. This is even more intense than the Pitures with its even more mineral-driven medium weight flavors that also display enough asperity to notice but the phenolic maturity is higher here even if the balance is still not ideal.

2015 Domaine de Saint-Denis “Clos des Ormes,” Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru AOP

From a single plot of 40 year old vines. The nose is a stunner with no reduction and not yet even beginning to shut down. Strawberry jam, dark cherry and smokey mineral and peppercorn. So lush and rich with great tannin and super fresh. This is so good now but can also go down for years.

2016 Domaine Lafarge-Vial Beaujolais
On Sale $42.99
The 2016 Côte de Brouilly is a new addition to the Lafarge Vial range and it comes from a parcel just before you arrive at Château Thivin, the vines around 50 years old. It has a very serious and complex bouquet with mineral-driven dark berry fruit, perhaps more introspective compared to the Clos Vernay. The palate is very sensual and well defined with great poise, superbly structured with a succulent, fleshy finish that is very tempting. Excellent!
