Join special guest Craig Baker, the importer who is also Jason’s travel buddy on his annual trip to Bordeaux and Burgundy, for a Best of France tasting! This guy is responsible for importing more of our favorite wines than we can list. He really knows his stuff and his multiple visits to the wineries has given him an incredible understanding of how these wines come to be. He and Jason selected this lineup from all over Burgundy and the Rhone that is sure to be a home run, and will give you a great mini version of one of their tasting trips!
Multi-Vintage Sabine Godme Brut “Reserve,” Premier Cru Champagne AOP

70% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Meunier. This gorgeous Champagne is a blend of grapes from 22 different 1er cru vineyard sites. On the palate, the lees aging (fermentation sediment is left with the juice during aging) comes through clearly, bringing an earthy flavor and great tannins. Notes of smoke, hazelnut, mineral, and white/yellow flowers accent the core of yellow apple. It’s reminiscent of good white Burgundy.
2016 Domaine Guillemard-Clerc “Les Parties,” Bourgogne Blanc AOP

“Les Parties” is an exceptional vineyard located in the village of Puligny-Montrachet. The wine’s very perfumed nose displays juicy tropical fruits, white flowers, and calcaire. Hints of spicy oak continue through the finish. The grapes are harvested by hand, sorted, and go directly from the
press into barrel for alcoholic fermentation. The result is a range of fine wines noted for their precision.
2016 Domaine des Granges “Vers Cras,” Pouilly-Fuisse AOP

Yannick is painstaking conscientious in the vineyard so he can bring is fully ripe and spotless grapes. Nothing goes into the vat that he wouldn’t put in his mouth. All the vineyards are sustainably farmed in order to protect the environment, and only indigenous yeasts are used to ferment. Everything is done to obtain a wine as natural as possible. The Vers Cras is fermented 100% in 350L barrels. The vineyard Ver Cras is considered among the top sites in the appellation; 250 meters elevation planted in calcaire. This is a blockbuster Chardonnay presenting super ripe baked orchard fruits and sweet vanilla toasty oak. The wine is powerful, extracted and dense with lots of class.

2016 Domaine Gerard Seguin “En Batayart,” Marsannay AOP

This small plot of “En Batayart” is located on the hill of the sleepy town of Couchey. With full Southern exposure for the 50 year old vines, there’s no worry about ripeness. The soil is shallow and the limestone rock is immediately below. The wine is aged for 15 months in 30% new French oak. The nose is
beautiful, with intense color and subtle notes of red fruits (cherry, strawberry) and black fruits (blackcurrant, blueberry). The finish is at once powerful and generous with palate-saturating fruit flavors. Stunning.
