Burgundy Tasting this Sunday!
Sunday, September 9
1 to 4pm
At the Bar
Ahhhh, Burgundy! We love this mysterious region, from its complex patchwork of vineyards to the myriad of producers farming vines in each precious plot of vines. We always joke that eventually everyone gets bitten by the bug. And with good reason! Nowhere else do wines provide such a strong sense of place. We’ve got some amazing values for you to taste, from a region that makes it especially hard to get values (that’s where we come in!).
2017 Patrick Piuze “1953,” Aligote Bourgogne AOP
On Sale $26.99
What’s so stunning about Patrick is that he’s committed to this region. Not the Grand Cru or a particular village but the region as a whole. While many are jacking up prices because their plots are again devastated by hail, this young turk is rolling up his sleeves and producing terrior drive magic. This is 100% Aligote is fresh and zippy, offering white peaches, green apples and pineapple, with strong floral and mineral aromas emerging from the glass. Fresh, fun and gulp-able, this is a STUNNING deal from one of our top three producers in Chablis. Stock up!
2016 Domaine Poulleau, Bourgogne Rouge AOP
On Sale $22.99
Domaine Poulleau is a lovely 7.3 hectare Domaine located in the heart of Volnay. The Domaine was created by Michel Poulleau in 1950 and today is diligently managed by Michel’s son Thierry Poulleau and his wife Florence. These wines represent classic terroir and fruit focused wines. Thierry is very judicious with his use of oak, always respecting the individuality of the parcel’s terroir. The 2017 Bourgogne is 100% declassified Cote de Beaune fruit; planted in 1986; aged in 2-5 year old barrels. Bright red fruits with hints of underbrush and earthy, forest-y aromas on the nose. Elegant with medium weight on the palate, good mineral and spice attack. Loads of ripe cherry, spice and nice length.
