California Cabernet Collectibles

13 May California Cabernet Collectibles

These are some of the finest California releases of the 2013 vintage. The Anakotas are collector’s items, designed for long-term aging. The Spottswoode, on the other hand, is designed for nearer-term enjoyment. All are from the outstanding 2013 vintage, which showcases some of Napa and Sonoma’s finest wines in history.

Robert Parker on Anakota:
“Jackson Family’s brilliant winemaker, famous for his Verité wines as well as an operation in St.-Emilion, is Bordelais, Pierre Seillan, who fashions the wines of Anakota from high-elevation vineyards in Knight’s Valley. Production of these 100% Cabernet Sauvignons ranges from 420 to 545 cases. They are big, backstrapping, formidably endowed wines meant for long-term cellaring.”

2013 Anakota Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Dakota Vineyard, Sonoma
On Sale $99.99
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Dakota (445 cases) is absolutely magnificent. Opaque black/purple in color, it comes across like a Château Montrose from a great vintage – a very earthy St.-Estèphe-inspired wine with the essence of loamy soil and crushed rocks interwoven with blackberry and cassis fruit. Some oak makes an appearance, but it is pushed to the background by the extravagance and enormous body and extract of this wine of phenomenal intensity. This is a classic Pierre Seillan style of wine meant for 25-40 years of cellaring.
98 Points, Robert Parker

2013 Anakota Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Montana Vineyard, Sonoma
On Sale $99.99
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Montana offers chocolate, sweet black cherries, a dense purple color, great intensity and purity – a real mountain style, but with surprisingly soft tannins. It is easily a 30-year wine. The good news is that there are 520 cases of this big, boisterous, yet voluptuously textured offering from Anakota.
96+ Points, Robert Parker

2013 Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon Lyndenhurst, Napa Valley
On Sale $72.99
Fantastic aromas of blueberry, blackberry, violets, black licorice and stones. Full-bodied, firm, silky, and fresh. Very long and balanced. Beautiful tannins. All in harmony. Drink in 2019.
96 Points, James Sucklling
