Awesome Grand & Premier Cru Wines

Chablis is in the far northern reaches of Burgundy, about as far north as you can grow grapes for wine. With it’s cool weather and prevalent limestone soils, itbichot clos is a very unique situation that leads to distinctive wines. William Fevre has always been a leader in quality in Chablis. With his broad portfolio of wines, he is always at the top of rankings of producers in this area. Albert Bichot has also found a footing with Domaine Long Depaquit and his stable of Premier and Grand Cru wines.

2014 Albert Bichot Domaine Long-Depaquit Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru
On Sale $65.99
Pale, green-tinged yellow. Very subtle aromas of fresh apple, hazelnut and powdered stone complicated by dried fruits, bitter almond and fresh herbs; shows a positive greenness. Quite dense and rich but remarkably weightless considering its superb breadth. Finishes very long and brisk, with dusty minerality and classic Chablis bitterness. The very small yield here brought more aromatic complexity than volume, noted Mangenot.

2014 Albert Bichot Domaine Long-Depaquit Chablis 1er Cru Les Vacoupins
On Sale $39.99
Pale bright yellow with a green tinge. Lovely lift to the aromas of lemon zest, ripe grapefruit, white pepper and high-pitched spices. A bit youthfully reticent today but the wine’s density is already clear to see. Sweet peach and crushed herb flavors convey excellent verve. From classical Kimmeridgian soil on a very steep slope, this wine boasts superb palate presence and class. The longest of these 2014s to this point.

2014 William Fevre Chablis 1er Cru Monteé de Tonnerre
On Sale $51.99
An ultra-fresh, cool and admirably pure nose features notes of shellfish, pear, mineral reduction and pungent iodine nuances. There is outstanding volume and intensity to the medium weight plus flavors that deliver beautifully focused power on the palate coating, mineral-driven and hugely persistent finale. Once again if tasted blind it would be all but impossible not to identify this as Chablis and a first-rate example at that!
92-94 Points,

2014 William Fevre Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons
On Sale $45.99
Pale yellow, a bit deeper than the Montmains. Fruit-driven aromas of ripe grapefruit and fresh pineapple. Sweet and rich on the palate; rounder than the Montmains but also nicely saline and minerally. Finishes almost austere, with lovely grip, verve and length. A very serious Vaillons. “This wine gets more minerally with time in bottle,” notes Seguier, “like Vaudésir.”

2014 William Fevre Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume
On Sale $45.99
Like the Les Lys, the nose is dominated by airy and cool floral and white fruit elements that display top notes of citrus and iodine. The medium-bodied flavors are a combination of power and refinement as they too coat the mouth while delivering an abundance of minerality on the impeccably well-balanced finale.

2014 Gilbert Picq Chablis 1er Cru Vacoupin
On Sale $34.99
Bright green-yellow color. Aromas of fresh apricot, orange zest, tangerine and white flowers. Boasts compelling sweetness of fruit for a wine that’s carrying just 0.9 g/l residual sugar, according to Picq. Thick and full, showing a flavor of lemon candy. At once powerful and elegant, this tactile, very rich wine is nicely balanced from the start. The very long finish features a late note of ripe, juicy nectarine.
