Join us for a special Chateauneuf master class featuring the wines of Domaine de Cristia! We’re welcoming Baptiste Grangeon, winemaker for Domaine de Cristia, for this event. This is a rare opportunity to chat with a winemaker and learn the first-hand story behind these consistently beautiful wines. In addition to the guided tasting, snacks from our cheese department will be provided.

2016 Domaine de Cristia Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc
On Sale $34.99
This stunner is 80% clairette and 20% roussanne grown in sandy soil on 40-year-old vines. It is rich and hefty, and classic Chateauneuf. On the palate, notes of peaches and pear give way to a subtle vanilla hint on the finish.
2015 Domaine de Cristia Chateauneuf-du-Pape “Renaissance”
On Sale $62.99
As for the reds from barrel, I found a touch of volatile acidity in all of the barrel samples, as well as a touch less exuberance and concentration than in past vintage. Still, as I hope the scores show, the wines are beautiful. A bigger, richer wine based on 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvèdre, the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Renaissance knocks it out of the park with its black and blue fruits, roasted meats, violets and mint-laced bouquet. It’s slightly less concentrated and decadent than previous vintages, yet is still full-bodied, seamless and concentrated, with sweet tannin. It should benefit from short-term cellaring, yet drink reasonably well in its youth.

2015 Domaine de Cristia Chateauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes
On Sale $74.99
As for the reds from barrel, I found a touch of volatile acidity in all of the barrel samples, as well as a touch less exuberance and concentration than in past vintage. My favorite of the barrel samples was the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes, which is 100% Grenache that was completely destemmed and aged in a mix of demi-muids, new barrels and older barrels. It offers awesome notes of plums, blackberries, blueberries, garrigue and roasted meats in a sexy, even flamboyant, full-bodied style that will be hard to resist in its youth. Again, there’s a touch of volatile acidity here, but it handles it well.

2015 Alain Grangeon Chateauneuf-du-Pape “Cuvee Tradition”
On Sale $22.99
This awesome second label of Domaine de Cristia offers incredible value and the same great quality. This Chateauneuf is classic in style, with dark red berry flavors and a spicy finish. Alain Grangeon is the son of Cristia’s winemaker Baptiste and his wines are an homage to those of his father.
2015 Domaine de Cristia Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes
On Sale $15.99
A step up over the base Côtes du Rhône, the 2015 Côtes du Rhône Vieilles Vignes (100% Grenache) offers beautiful black raspberry, creamy vanilla and spice-box characteristics in a medium to full-bodied, supple, sweetly-fruited package. Readers looking for a great value to drink over the coming 3-4 years need look no further.
