Domaine Weinbach The Best of Alsace!

18 Mar Domaine Weinbach The Best of Alsace!

Have you discovered the wines of Alsace? This Northern French region borders Germany and its wines demonstrate a wonderful, complex set of influences from both countries. Alsace is especially famous for white wines, often showing strong components of flowers and minerals. Domaine Weinbach is one of the top producers who has put this region on the map.

2015 Domaine Weinbach Gewurztraminer “Cuvee Theo”
On Sale $32.99
Sourced from the Clos surrounding the Domaine and picked on September 12th, the 2015 Gewurztraminer Cuvée Theo has a clear, fresh and aromatic bouquet of spicy and mineral flavors. Stunningly piquant and fresh on the palate, this is a very lush and elegant Gewurz with a nice tannin grip. Thanks to the good structure, the sweetness of almost 21 grams per liter tastes rather lush and fruity than sweet here.

2015 Domaine Weinbach Muscat Reserve
On Sale $32.99
Mainly sourced in the Clos but also in the Schlossberg, the 2015 Muscat Réserve is a blend of 70% Ottonel and 30% Muscat d’Alsace that was picked on 16 and 28 of September. “The Muscats were tricky,” says Cathérine. “We had to pick them twice, because some of the grapes were not fully ripe at the time of the first picking.” The wine has a very bright color and is still somewhat reduced on the nose due to sulfur, but indicates ripe white fruit aromas along with lovely floral flavors. On the palate, this is a mouthful of full-bodied, aromatic, elegant and refreshing Muscat that is lifted by a lovely piquant acidity. The finish is pure, dry, well structured and aromatic. This is another excellent wine with food, vegetables mainly and white meat.

2015 Domaine Weinbach Riesling Grand Cru Schlossberg
On Sale $39.99
The 2015 Riesling Schlossberg comes from the bottom of the praised single vineyard and opens with a lovely, pure, refined and elegant bouquet of bright Riesling and lemon fruit aromas, intertwined with very delicate flinty/mineral flavors. On the palate, this is a full-bodied and rich, yet elegant Riesling with a warm, super ripe fruit (that reminds me of healthy shriveled raisins) and some grippy rather than fine phenols. The acidity is vital and finely racy, and takes this Schlossberg to a long and aromatic, pretty refreshing finish with stimulating salinity. The tannins are still there though, and still a bit astringent. Picked between September 22 and 28, bottled in June 2016. Tasted December 2016.

2015 Domaine Weinbach Sylvaner Reserve
On Sale $19.99
From old vines in the Clos, Faller’s bright-colored 2015 Sylvaner Réserve opens with a very clear, elegant and delicate bouquet of white fruits intermixed with some very subtle smoky/mineral flavors. Bone dry and fresh on the palate, but with a super ripe and intense raisin fruit flavor, this is a dense, complex and well-structured Sylvaner with a long and grippy finish. This is an excellent wine with food.
