Table One will highlight the portfolio of Wilson Daniels, the importers who bring us Domaine Romanee Conti and Domaine Leflaive. What many don’t know is that Wilson Daniels also has killer portfolios from California, Chablis, New Zealand, and Italy!

2016 RouteStock Cabernet Sauvignon “Route 29,” Napa
On Sale $19.99
The aromas of this wine are very classic Napa Valley, seducing you with notes of dark black fruit, cedar, bay laurel, cocoa and dusty plum. The pallet is expansive throughout with mouth-watering flavors of black plum, mushroom, chocolate, savory hints of bay leaf and fine sweet Napa Valley fruit. The wine fills the mouth with richness, fruit, a bright acidity and just enough natural grape and oak tannin to lengthen the wine into a great lingering aftertaste. The use of four Bordeaux varietals adds to the complexity, depth and interest of this finely crafted Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
Importer’s Notes

Saturday Tasting Part 2:

At table two, we’re highlighting excellent wines from Calluna Vineyards! This winery in the tiny and very desirable Chalk Hill AVA specializes in Bordeaux blends (since the winemaker cut his teeth making wine in Bordeaux!). Chalk Hill is a special place for making wine, named for its white-colored soils that actually aren’t chalky but contain a lot of volcanic ash and sand. The soil creates an environment where the vines must struggle, creating a small quantity of high quality fruit. It’s a bonus that we’ll have the chance to sample different vintages of the same wines to see the affect of a particular year’s weather, along with the affect of aging, on the finished wines.

2018 Calluna Estate Blanc, Chalk Hill
On Sale $34.99
This is a wine of bright acidity, moderate alcohol and great depth of flavor. These varietals complement each other as the rounder and honey-like tones of the Semillon are a counterpoint to the citrus, mineral and brighter tones of the Sauvignon Blanc. The barrel fermentation and barrel aging further harmonize the wine, giving us a graceful wine which belongs at the table and will potentially age for many years.
Winery Notes

2011 Calluna Vineyards Cuvee, Chalk Hill

This is among the finest Bordeaux blends at its price point, from estate-grown fruit, and consisting of a majority Merlot. A dusty, oaky nose gives way to soft fleshy black fruit, cedar and black pepper, offering length and breadth with ease.

2014 Calluna Estate Cuvee, Chalk Hill
On Sale $69.99
A blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 17% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot and Malbec, the 2014 Calluna Estate offers a deep ruby/purple color to go with a brilliant bouquet of blueberries, plums, Asian spice, and cedar. It also picks up classic tobacco and cigar notes with time in the glass. It’s medium-bodied, nicely concentrated, and balanced, with fine tannin. Give bottles a few years and it should keep for 15+ years.
93 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

2012 Calluna Estate Cuvee, Chalk Hill
On Sale $69.99
The 2012 Calluna Estate from Chalk Hill is a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot and Malbec. An elegant and beautiful wine with a deep ruby/purple color, Bordeaux-like minerality, crème de cassis, licorice, earth and spice. The tannins are sweet, the wine medium to full-bodied, complex and supple. This is a beauty that should drink well for 15-20 years. Impressive.
93 Points, The Wine Advocate
