2015 Comte Lafon Macon Milly La Martin
On Sale $22.99
(bottled in July; a blend of two big east-facing vineyards located far from the river at an altitude of 400 meters, picked at the end in 2015, on September 9; done in foudres and demi-muids): Subtle aromas of lemon and white flowers. Rich but tight, showing a youthful sweet/sour quality owing to its very sound acidity for the year (4.5 grams per liter, according to Gon, who noted that she did no acidification in 2015). Saline more than fruity today and in need of time in bottle to harmonize.
2015 Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet Les Houllieres
On Sale $54.99
This crisp Chsagne shows much of the character of Puligny-Montrachet (neighboring vineyards!) and is one of our perennial favorites from this excellent producer. Aromas of lemon blossoms, biscuits, and French vanilla ice cream lead into a palate of pears, citrus, minerals, and the slightest hint of brioche.
2016 Domaine de la Petite Cassagne Rose
On Sale $9.99
Light, bright orange. Displays lively, mineral-tinged strawberry and tangerine scents, complemented by a floral nuance that builds in the glass. Silky and focused on the palate, offering juicy orange and red berry flavors and a zesty snap of white pepper. Shows good thrust and gentle sweetness on the finish, which echoes the berry and pepper notes.
2016 Georges Vernay Syrah Rose “Le Temps des Serines”
On Sale $16.99
This beautiful rosé has delicate notes of raspberry, rose petals, pomegranate, and strawberry, with a spicy, earthy, rich finish. The red wine aromatics really come out as the wine opens up.
2016 Laroche Mas la Chevaliere Rosé, Pays d’Oc
On Sale $12.99
This rockin’ rosé comes from the famous LaRoche in the Languedoc region. A blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Syrah, it has a richness that comes across on the nose before it even reaches the palate. Notes of strawberries, tropical fruit, and red berries lead to a zesty, dry finish. This is the rosé of the year.
2015 Domaine Georges Vernay Syrah de Mirbaudie
On Sale $22.99
This red, 100% Syrah wine is made from vines planted at the perimeter of the appellation of Condrieu. It opens itself up with a bouquet of red fruits, blackberries and pepper. Upon tasting it is a wine whose ample flavour, velvety tannins and smoky finale highlight deeper flavours of red fruits and spices.
2015 Vieux Donjon Chateauneuf-du-Pape AOC
On Sale $48.99
The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape is a classic blend of 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault, mostly from rolled stone terroirs, that was partially destemmed and will see 15 months all in foudre. It boasts a deep ruby/purple color as well as full-bodied richness, sweet tannin and textbook Southern Rhône notes of cured meats, toasted spice, garrigue and ample red and black fruits. It will have two decades or more of prime drinking.
