06 Mar French Highlights
These two wines are drinking just perfectly right now, and they represent some of our absolute favorite French regions! The Clos Noly is exactly what we love in a white Burgundy, with perfect balance of richness and acidity. And the Boulon Morgon is a great example of why we think Beaujolais is the “next big thing.” It’s lush and inviting, without too much weight. Perfect wines for spring!
2018 Domaine Clos Noly Pouilly-Fuisse “Courtelong”
On Sale $22.99
Sourced from 40+ year old vineyards located in predominantly calcaire soils; 85% stainless steel and 15% in 1-3 year old barrels for 9 months. High toned and purposeful nose of apple aromas and hints of tangerine blossom alongside of browned butter, smoke and toasty hints of oak. Rich middle with copious amounts of fruit, pie crust and honeycomb; wonderful calcaire intensity through the middle; very classy Pouilly-Fuisse.
2017 Domaine J. Boulon Morgon, Beaujolais AOP
On Sale $12.99
The wines from this address represent classic “old school” Beaujolais. They showcase the brilliant high-toned fruit and freshness we want, but also the beautiful depth and complexity that often is absent. The family’s vineyard work is meticulous. All the grapes are hand harvested and average around 40% whole-cluster fermentation. The fruit comes from pure clay and granite soil. The vineyards are situated in both the Northern and Southern limits of Morgon. Classically ripe, as Morgon tends to be, with plush wild cherries and spices on the nose. Lovely concentration that gives a plush fruity, velvety texture in the mouth too. The finish is persistent with gentle brown stem tannins and notes of earth, smoke and juicy briar fruits.
