Table #1: Terry Thiese Grower Champagne

NV Aubry Premier Cru Brut, Champagne AOP
On Sale $39.99
A smooth, gently round and nicely balanced Champagne dominant in pinot meunier, pinot noir and chardonnay to boot. It has attractive lemon citrus flavors and is really punchy, refined and gently nutty. A smooth, pastry-like texture comes to the fore on the finish. Drink now.

NV Rene Geoffroy “Expression,” Premier Cru Brut, Champagne AOP
On Sale $44.99
The NV Brut Expression is floral, racy and explosive. Apricot, yellow flowers, mint and butter are all generous in the glass. Vinous and creamy, with tons of richness, the Expression has so much to offer. Even with the blocked malolactic fermentation, the Expression is quite extroverted. Tropical overtones add to a real sense of exoticism, and yet there is plenty of freshness and cut as well. This release is a blend of 2013, 2012 and 2011. I imagine the high quality of 2013 has a lot to do with this wine’s sheer beauty. Disgorged: February, 2018.

NV Gaston Chiquet “Carte Verte Tradition,” Premier Cru Brut, Champagne AOP
On Sale $39.99
The NV Brut Tradition, based on 2013 in this release, is absolutely delicious, not to mention a terrific introduction to the range and a great value. The natural richness and breadth of Aÿ come through loud and clear. Pear, spice and floral notes build effortlessly as this creamy, super-inviting Champagne shows off its alluring personality. The Tradition is a real overachiever in its price range. Disgorged: February, 2019.

NV Pierre Péters “Cuvée de Reserve,” Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut, Champagne AOP
On Sale $63.99
Very fine bready lemon citrus aromas here; a restrained, fresh and attractively raw expression of chardonnay aromas. The palate unleashes more flamboyant fruit flavors, heading through citrus to nectarine and peach. The focus never wavers. Long, fine and pure.

NV Marc Hebrart “Mes Favorites de Vieilles Vignes,” Premier Cru Brut, Champagne AOP
On Sale $69.99
The NV Brut Premier Cru Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes is a new cuvée for Hébrart that’s well worth seeking out, derived from superior, south-facing sites in Mareuil-sur-Ay that also inform his Special Club bottling. The inaugural released, based on the 2014 vintage, is showing very well, wafting from the glass with aromas of apples, pears, tangerine, white flowers, spice and pastry cream. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, concentrated and nicely structured, with good cut and dry extract, as well as all the charm that defines the house style.

NV Marc Hebrart Rose Premier Cru Brut, Champagne AOP
On Sale $56.99
The NV Brut Rosé is another gorgeous wine in this range. Hebrart deftly manages fruit intensity and energy in a Brut Rose that positively sizzles with energy. Cranberry, white pepper, mint, crushed rocks and chalk add to the wine’s taught brilliant feel. There is so much to admire and enjoy in this pure, crystalline Rose. This release is 55% 2015 Chardonnay, 38.5% Pinot Noir from 2014/2013 and a dollop of still 2014 Pinot. Disgorged: January 23, 2018.

2012 Pierre Gimonnet et Fils “Special Club-Chouilly,” Grand Cru Brut, Champagne AOP
On Sale $137.99
The 2012 Brut Special Club Chouilly Grand Cru is powerful, bracing and explosive, with tremendous drive from the very first taste. Bright citrus, flowers, chalk and white pepper all add a beguiling aromatic upper register to this bright, chiseled Champagne from Didier Gimonnet. The Chouilly is a wine of energy, precision and savory/citrus-inflected vibrancy. Disgorged: October, 2018

Table #2: Dierberg & Star Lane Vineyards, with Tyler Thomas, Winemaker

Note, as an added bonus Tyler will be bringing some aged wines from the winery. While we will not have them to sell it will be fun to see how age-worthy these wines are!

2017 Star Lane Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, Happy Canyon AVA
On Sale $19.99
The 2017 Sauvignon Blanc has a pretty, Bordeaux Blanc-like vibe in its lemon curd and leafy herb aromas and flavors. It’s clean and crisp on the palate, with solid balance as well as acidity. Drink this outstanding Sauvignon Blanc over the coming 2-3 years.
90 points, Jeb Dunnuck

2016 Dierberg Estate Vineyard Chardonnay, Santa Maria Valley AVA
On Sale $28.99
The fascinating nose of this bottling is driven by wet stone, yet it also touches on orange rinds, fresh chives, lemongrass balm and a nearly basil-like aromatic without the green spice. It’s lively on the palate with flint and crushed stone, showing very fresh and acid-driven flavors of lemon and ash, riding a firm tension through the sip.

2016 Dierberg Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir, Santa Maria Valley AVA
On Sale $39.99
Moving to the reds, the 2016 Pinot Noir Dierberg Vineyard comes from the estate vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley and was 75% destemmed and aged 10 months in 25% new French oak. Ruby/purple-hued, with notes of raspberries, Asian spice, forest floor, and crushed flowers, it’s medium-bodied and has a rounded, elegant texture, beautiful purity, and a great finish. It’s a clean, classy, impeccably put together Pinot Noir to drink over the coming 7-8 years.
93 points, Jeb Dunnuck

2016 Star Lane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Happy Canyon AVA
On Sale $46.99
Dried berry, cocoa dust, roasted wood and cracked pepper aromas show on the nose of this bottling. There is a strong espresso bean and cocoa combination to the palate, where charred blackberry, plum and fig elements make for a comfortingly roasted flavor profile.

2015 Dierberg Estate Vineyard Syrah, Santa Ynez Valley AVA
On Sale $39.99 (very limited!)
Highly extracted, almost black color with tons of varietal smoke, blackberry, cured meat and fresh cracked pepper. The Dierberg Syrah fires on all cylinders with an explosive aroma. The mouth feel is all luxury-driven with ripe tannin and oodles of mid-palate. This is a classy, serious Syrah that has already shed some baby fat and is entering its peak. While this address is more well know for other grapes, the fact is, Tyler Thomas is a master with Syrah.
