01 Mar Incredible Value Bordeaux From Count von Neipperg
Stephan von Neipperg is a Count of the Holy Roman Empire, and his reputation in Saint Emilion precedes him. He owns some of the Right Bank’s most esteemed estates, like Canon-La Gaffeliere and La Mondotte. But today we’re highlighting two of his wineries that are producing incredible values, Clos Marsalette and Chateau D’Aiguilhe. Like all von Neipperg wineries, these producers focus on quality and capturing the character of the terroir. They are classic Right Bank wines at very fair prices (and all on sale!).

2011 Clos Marsalette Rouge, Pessac-Leognan
On Sale $29.99
The Graves face of the famous Comtes de Neipperg, the beautiful, deep plum/ruby-colored 2011 Clos Marsalette boasts exotic, rich, black cherry, incense, Asian spice, licorice, Christmas fruitcake and baking spice-like notes. There is not a hard edge to be found in this opulent, fleshy, complex, rich Pessac-Leognan. A big-time sleeper of the vintage, this medium-bodied, exuberant wine can be drunk over the next 10-15 years. Neipperg and his team hit a home run with Clos Marsalette in 2011.

2014 Comte d’Aiguilhe, Castillon, Cotes de Bordeaux

This is a second wine of Chateau d’Aiguilhe. We LOVE second wines because they offer the same quality and winemaking techniques at lesser prices. These are a great place to look for value.
