11 Jun Last Call for 2010 Brunello Riservas
2010 was a stunning vintage in Tuscany and nowhere more so than in Montalcino. While the regular Brunelli are sold out, we have just received he Riservas. Required to spend an additional year in barrel, these are the best lots of any winemaker’s vineyards in each vintage. Big, deep, and rich wines that will require some patience to hit their stride, it is a vintage of surprising approachability even at this young age.
2010 Siro Pacenti Brunello di Montalcino Riserva PS
On Sale $156.99 750mL, $319.99 1.5L
Only made in the best years, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva PS is a phenomenal achievement. The wine was produced in 2006, 2007, 2010 and will also be released in 2012 and 2015. Fruit is sourced from across a five-hectare vineyard in the northern part of the appellation, but only 1,500 bottles are made using the very best fruit. This is an incredible wine that shows a promising evolution in the glass. The bouquet is fluid and graceful with a very precise and focused delivery. Dark fruit is contrasted against pressed rose, smoked spice and crushed graphite. The finish is silky and very long. Attractive tones of savory smoked meat appear at the very end.

2010 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli
On Sale $112.99
The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli is a phenomenal achievement and a wine that captures not only the spirit of this classic vintage, but the true essence of an age-worthy wine like Brunello. This single vineyard Riserva is sharp, pristine and immaculate. It starts slow and shy, but then blossoms to beautiful intensity and aromatic brilliance. It delivers a very authentic and genuine read of Sangiovese with wild berry aromas followed by pressed violets, wet earth, tobacco and lightly toasted spice. The bouquet is seamless and very long in persistence. The same holds true for the mouthfeel. The wine delivers a fine and silky texture with a good dose of power and personality at the rear.

2010 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino “Vigna Loreto”
On Sale $88.99
I love the savory character and silky texture to this wine. Full body, chewy tannins and a juicy and delicious finish. A baby still. Needs three to four years to soften. Better in 2017.

2010 Fossacolle Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
On Sale $102.99
Fossacolle’s 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is another stellar wine from a stellar vintage. This Brunello opens to dark concentration and deep ruby highlights that add to the wine’s overall weight and importance. The bouquet is composed of a fine aromatic embroidery with cherry, spice, tobacco and grilled herb. What distinguishes this wine in the end is its superb texture. This Riserva walks a fine line between elegance and power, and it does a great job of delivering both. That density and determination bodes well for its future aging potential.

2010 Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
On Sale $124.99
So much opulence to this on the nose with very ripe and flamboyant black cherry character and spices. Very floral. Lemon rind. Full body, very tight and polished tannins. Fine grained. Fresh fruit and long and incredible fruit. Last for minutes. A great wine indeed. Drink or hold.
