Last Call on 93 Point Rompicollo Tuscan Red

26 May Last Call on 93 Point Rompicollo Tuscan Red

Last Call on 93 Point Rompicollo!

Last call on this highly rated bargain! We have the last few cases of this vintage and when it’s gone, it’s gone. It’s from one of Italy’s great Amarone estates, made in Tuscany in an Amarone style but they use Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese instead of the traditional Amarone grapes (Corvina, Rondenella, etc.). This is one of the best “bang for the buck wines we carry. This vintage will be gone soon!

2012 Tommasi Poggio al Tuffo “Rompicollo,” Toscana
On Sale $14.99
Dark bright red. Amarone-like opulence on the nose and in the mouth, with a raisiny nuance to the ripe, soft red cherry, sweet spice and herb aromas and flavors. So velvety and opulent I would have tasted it in Veneto had I tasted it blind, but it’s so well balanced and smooth that it’s pretty irresistible. Finishes long, with lush, smooth tannins and a hint of residual sweetness. I really like this wine because, for all its showy sweetness and opulence, it manages to retain a graceful quality without going over the top. Amarone lovers will score it even higher than I have.

Aromas of flowers, lemon rind and dried cherries follow through to a full body, soft tannins and a savory finish. Really delicious.

2014 Luca Ferraris del Martin Barbera d’Asti
On Sale $10.99
The Barbera d’Asti DOCG “del Martin” is produced from grapes sourced from four different vineyards. Like Ruchè, this wine is fermented in French oak barrels at a controlled environment for about 15 days. It is transferred to stainless steel vats for about a month to allow for malolactic fermentation, then put in 25-hectoliter French oak casks where it rests for about 6 months. Sharpening in casks results in a soft and perfumed wine – lively, deep and persistent. Both dry and rich, Barbera d’Asti is a full-bodied wine that pairs well with many meat-based dishes such as pasta with meat sauces, cold cuts or grilled meats.
