29 Sep Montevertine Italian Reds
“Montevertine is one of the reference point producers in Tuscany for ageworthy, traditionally made wines. The estate’s flagship, Le Pergole Torte, plays in the same league with the very finest wines in the world.”

2014 Montevertine “Pian del Ciampolo” Rosso di Toscana
On Sale $29.99 750ml $66.99 1.5L
After the grapes for the Montevertine Rosso and the Le Pergole Torte are selected, the remainder of the fruit is used to make this everyday drinker, Pian del Ciampolo. The wine is an easy-drinking and approachable Sangiovese-dominant blend with a lighter body and a long, dry finish. We are huge fans of this type of “second wine,” as they offer amazing quality at an often much lower price than wineries’ premiere wines. This is no exception to that rule.
2013 Montevertine Rosso di Toscana
On Sale $52.99 750ml $109.99 1.5L
The 2013 Montevertine is pliant and expressive, with lovely mid-palate resonance and gorgeous depth. Today, the Montevertine comes across as a bit raw and unpolished, especially next to the sublime Pergole Torte, but it nevertheless shows ample potential as well as pedigree, not to mention multiple dimensions to its personality. This sample was a bit unsettled, which suggests it might have been racked recently. Still, the overall texture is impossible to miss.

2012 Montevertine “Le Pergole Torte,” Toscana
On Sale $115.99
The 2012 Le Pergole Torte is brilliant. In fact, this is one of the best showings of the 2012 that I can recall. The flavors are bright, focused and pulsing with energy. Because of its mid-weight structure and not overly complex personality, the 2012 looks like it will start drinking well sooner rather than later. Even today, the 2012 is extremely beautiful. This is a terrific showing for the 2012.
