25 Feb New Alsatians from Weinbach, Marcel Deiss!
Domaine Weinbach, Marcel Deiss Alsatians
We have two of the top estates from Alsace on sale, including the new arrivals from bio-dynamically farmed Domaine Weinbach. The estate has adapted to the sudden death Laurence Faller in 2014, a man who made, The Wine Advocate wrote, “some of France’s (hardly just Alsace’s) richest and most flamboyant wines.”
“The wines are elegant and well balanced, and characterized by a great fruit finesse and precision, whereas the vibrant acidity guarantees a great aging potential.”

2014 Domaine Weinbach Riesling Cuvee Theo, Alsace

2014 Domaine Weinbach Muscat Reserve, Alsace
On Sale $35.99
Bright yellow-green… explosive aromas of citrus and spice are lifted by a note of lavender. Juicy and firm, with a sweet-and-sour quality and brisk acidity to the peppery stone fruit and spice flavors. Finishes classically dry, long and bright, with lovely floral touches. This highly perfumed example of Alsace Muscat is 85% Muscat Ottonel and 15% Muscat d’Alsace.

2014 Domaine Weinbach Sylvaner Reserve, Alsace
On Sale $19.99
Pale straw… lean and fresh on the enticing nose and in the mouth, with mint, thyme and green apple aromas dominating. The juicy palate is perked up by a lively cilantro note at the back. A lively mineral tang extends the finish. This vintage strikes me as especially taut and crystalline. The 40-year-old Sylvaner vines at Weinbach, located within the Clos des Capucins, yield less than 45 hectoliters per hectare… a refined, delicate wine.

Marcel Deiss Dessert Wines
We still have a handful of these rare dessert wines from Marcel Deiss! The designation “Selection de Grains Nobles” denotes very rare bottlings, made from hand-selected grape clusters that have been affected by “noble rot,” a beneficial type of fungus found on grapes. The resulting flavor is incredibly complex and exotic. These are rare and delicious treats from one of Alsace’s best!
“Deiss is one of the greatest intellectual personalities in Alsace and one of the most influential avant-gardists in viticulture.”

2008 Domaine Marcel Deiss Gewurtztraminer Selection de Grains Nobles, Alasce
On Sale $50.99 500mL
Yellow plum preserves, liqueur-preserved walnuts, and white raisin in the nose of Deiss’s 2008 Gewurztraminer Selection De Grains Nobles lead to a viscous, oily palate of piquant nuttiness and bittersweet balance despite its enormously high residual sugar. This finishes with exceptional persistence, if not enormous lift of elegance. It should be worth following for three decades, which might well bring further complexity and more refinement.

2005 Domaine Marcel Deiss Gewurtztraminer Selection de Grans Nobles, Alsace
On Sale $109.99 375mL
Pale golden-straw color. Complex, subtly cool aromas of orange marmalade, citrus peel, mirabelle, acacia honey, cinnamon and earth. Dense, thick and superripe, with a downright spherical texture and explosive length. Boasts wonderful concentration of acidity, with a strong lemon zest flavor framing the supersweet flavors, but today this is merely the outline of a wine. And yet, after the remarkable progression of Deiss’s idiosyncratic terroir wines, it was still easier to taste.
