30 Aug New Loire Wines, Domaine Guiberteau
Rare Loire Valley Wines From Domaine Guiberteau
From one of France’s up-and-coming regions, the Loire Valley, we present this stunning collection from Domaine Guiberteau (pronounced gee’-ber-toe’), an incredibly sought-after producer situated in Saumur. These wines are organically produced, using whole cluster fermentation and indigenous yeasts. We can’t say enough about the quality here. Saumur wines are known for their complex character. You’ll keep discovering nuances until the last sip. Try the entry level red and white for starters, and then take it up a notch with their single-vineyard selections.
2014 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Blanc
On Sale $17.99
100% Chenin Blanc. This delightful, mid-weight white from the Loire is classic to the region. Fruity notes of apple and melon are accompanied by a refreshing chalky mineral overtone, with a mineral finish.
2015 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Rouge
On Sale $18.99
100% Cabernet Franc. This entry level Loire red is exotic and approachable, with notes of strawberry, wildflowers, and spices unfolding as it sits in the glass. The wine starts out very subtle and opens up beautifully. Great accompaniment for fall cuisine.
2013 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Blanc “Breze,” Loire Valley (Limited!)
On Sale $46.99
100% Chenin Blanc. The Breze is arguably Domaine Guiberteau’s finest Saumur white, with tart fruit flavors (lemon, gooseberry) and a great balance of acidity. The old vine fruit lends a depth of character and a hint of spice on the finish. This wine is excellent now and will only improve with a couple of years’ bottle aging. Breze is a single hillside where Chenin Blanc’s character shines like in no other place. The wines are, in the winemaker’s words, “violently assertive, brilliantly mineral.” This wine is a must-try for anyone interested in the Loire’s unique style.
2013 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Rouge “Les Arboises” (Limited!)
On Sale $43.99
100% Cabernet Franc. This small-production Saumur red wine has a striking complexity that keeps bringing you back to the glass. Fresh raspberry notes mingle with hints of fall flowers and baking spices. The long finish is slightly peppery. This wine is absolutely classic to the region and a great bottle to bring attention the Loire’s potential for greatness.
