20 Aug Nexo Rioja is Back!
The Nexo Rioja is finally back in stock! The new vintage is rockin’ and is drinking great right off the bat. We’re also highlighting another great deal in Rioja from Alonso Lopez. Nexo is made in the traditional style, with no new oak and a subtle, nuanced style. The Lopez Crianza is more of a modern style wine from Rioja, with a heavy influence from new French oak and a more rounded, chocolate character.
2016 Nexo Rioja
On Sale $12.99
This is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha. The two grapes varieties are vinified separately and then blended together. Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks then aged in American oak barrels for four months. Nexo vineyards are located near Viana, in the heart of the Rioja Alta region, known for its ‘old world’ style of wines. A higher elevation equates to a shorter growing season, which in turn produces fresh, elegant and subtle flavored wines with a lighter style. Deep red cherry color with dark ripe plum and cherry on the nose, with some toast, cinnamon and toffee. This wine is tasty, with good structure, tannin and really well balanced. This will go well with pork, lamb and anything that contains red peppers, paprika, garlic or saffron and will complement any Spanish influenced cuisine.
2014 Alonso Lopez Rioja Crianza
On Sale $12.99
This is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano. Alonso Lopez is elaborated in LaPuebla de Labarca village, in Rioja Alavesa. This is considered by many (and us included) to be a “1er Cru” Village for Rioja wines. Malolactic Fermentation took place in cement vats as well as in new French barrels and aged 14 months. Bright, clean and full red. Explosive aromas of crushed raspberry, rosemary, violet, smoke and coffee. Uncannily rounded, it fills the mouth leaving an impression of velvety red berries and minerals. Finishes extremely long and magically fresh. Pair this with Iberico bellota or Serrano ham, roasted lamb, fillet mignon and salty, tangy sheep’s milk cheeses.
