Oregon & California Tasting Sat. 1/27

25 Jan Oregon & California Tasting Sat. 1/27

Saturday, January 27
12 to 4pm
In our Event Space

This Saturday join us to taste the wines of Oregon’s Willamette Valley and California’s Santa Barbara County! We are going to pour some of our long time favorites from Oregon (Evesham Wood & Haden Fig) and some new kids from Santa Barbara (Stolpman & Folded Hills). It should be fun to taste how Oregon aligns itself with Burgundy while Santa Barbara’s climate is more suited to the Rhone Valley grapes.

2015 Haden Fig Chardonnay, Willamette Valley
On Sale $22.99
Fermented and aged entirely in French oak with about ten percent new. Apple, Meyer lemon and slight toast on the the nose followed by a nicely textured mid-palate and bright finish.once retaining a bright, fresh acidity complemented by the complex flavors of citrus and mineral.
Merch Notes

2016 Stolpman Estate Roussanne, Ballard Canyon
On Sale $22.99
This wine starts with a creamy nose of apricot, banana and orangesicle but then a more oxidative quality comes through of slightly sour guava and pineapple. It’s tight and tart on the sip, combining banana, guava and macadamia nut richness with grapefruit peel sourness. It’s an interesting and unique wine.

2014 Evesham Wood Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills
On Sale $22.99
A ripe yet cool and mildly grapey nose displays notes of both red and dark cherry along with subtle spice hints. There is good volume to the delicious, round and pliant medium weight flavors that possess a lovely texture, all wrapped in a dusty, firm and relatively serious finish. I suspect that the grapey character presently exhibited by the nose will gradually disappear withfew years of bottle age and overall, this is really quite good as it flashes the underlying material to reward cellaring. Worth checking out.

2014 Evesham Wood Pinot Noir “Temperance Hill”
On Sale $32.99 (lowest price online!)
A ripe but restrained nose is also mildly reduced though aggressive swirling eventually coaxes out both higher and lower register aromas that include plum, dark cherry, raspberry, tea and rose petal. There is excellent mid-palate density to the tautly muscular and overtly powerful middle weight plus flavors that are shaped by a very firm tannic spine on the impressively persistent finale. Like the Mahonia this is robust and borderline rustic but overall, there is simply more potential, provided you are willing to cellar it appropriately. 2026+

2015 Folded Hills “August” Proprietary Red Wine
On Sale $32.99
Pliant and bold, the 2015 Red August is another gorgeous wine from Folded Hills. Dark cherry and plum are pushed forward in this beautifully layered, supple wine. The 2015 is 64% Grenache and 36% Syrah.

2015 Folded Hills “Grant’s” Grenache
On Sale $29.99
The 2015 Grenache Grant is a very pretty wine. Sweet red cherry, plum, mint and rose petal notes give the 2015 lovely brightness and striking purity of expression. Inviting and impeccably balanced, the 2015 is a flat-out delicious wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. A dollop of Syrah rounds out the blend.
