2014 Patz & Hall Chardonnay Dutton Ranch, Sonoma Coast

This wine is made from some of the oldest Chardonnay plantings in western Sonoma County (first planted in 1969). Mostly dry-farmed, whole cluster pressed, indigenous yeast fermentation, aged in 100% French oak barrels. Light golden yellow color in the glass. Very inviting aromas of yellow peach, almond spread and lemon curd. Appealing richness and softness on the palate with lip-smacking flavors of yellow peach, lemon pie, and honey. Affable harmony, with good length on a finish.

Combining fruit from a who’s who of the appellation’s most renowned vineyards, this cuvée harmoniously brings together the acidity, structure and stone fruit flavors of grapes grown on the windswept slopes of Gap’s Crown Vineyard, the crème brulee and graham cracker elements of Durell Vineyard, the high-tone green apple and Muscat character of Dutton Ranch’s heirloom clones and Zio Tony Ranch’s lush and appealing tropical flavors.

Bright, deep red with ruby highlights. Crushed raspberry, cranberry, orange zest and smoke on the inviting nose. A juicy, spicy blend with firm acidity giving shape to the flavors of dark berries, black tea and cocoa powder. Finishes with slightly dusty tannins.

2013 Patz & Hall Pinot Noir Gap’s Crown, Sonoma Coast

Another Sonoma Coast offering, the 2013 Pinot Noir Gap’s Crown Vineyard (15% whole clusters used and 65% new French oak aging) exhibits a dark ruby color along with a big, sweet bouquet of kirsch liqueur, raspberries, redcurrants, pomegranates, Provençal herbs, and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied with rich, zesty acidity as well as a long finish.

The 2013 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard (1,100 cases produced) is made from the Hyde-Old Wente clone. From sandy, clay, loam soils, it offers up aromas of honeysuckle, white peach, delicate pineapple and subtle oak. Medium to full-bodied with great acidity as well as beautiful purity and freshness.

The 2013 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard (1,050 cases produced) comes from the Hyde Calera selection of Pinot Noir, was fermented with 10% whole clusters, and saw 60% new French oak. This stunning, deep ruby/purple-hued Pinot reveals notes of black raspberries, kirsch and forest floor, a medium to full-bodied, pure, graceful, nicely textured, savory, mouthfilling style, and a decade of drinkability.
