Join us as we celebrate the wines of Santa Barbara! We’re highlighting the wines of Dierberg Winery and Stolpman Vineyards, who produce an extremely wide array of varieties from this varied climate region. Dierberg, under winemaker and local native Tyler Thomas, specializes in Pinot and Chardonnay from Sta. Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley as well as Bordeaux grapes from Santa Ynez, while Stolpman is a Rhone specialist with their delightful Roussanne and Syrah. Quanitities are limited. If you can’t make the tasting, feel free to reserve the wines below.
2013 Dierberg Chardonnay, Dierberg Vineyard, Santa Maria Valley
On Sale $28.99
The 2013 Chardonnay Dierberg Vineyard is super-polished and finessed from start to finish. Scents of almond, lemon peel and flowers open up in this striking, effortless Chardonnay. Orange peel and slightly more tropical notes develop with air in a Chardonnay that offers superb textural depth and tons of personality, all in a laid-back, understated style that is such a signature of Santa Maria.

2012 Dierberg Pinot Noir, Dierberg Vineyard, Santa Maria Valley
On Sale $36.99
The 2012 Pinot Noir Dierberg Vineyard is a bit more subtle and elegant than the Drum Canyon. Crushed flowers, sweet red berries and mint are all laced together in an effortless, impeccably balanced Pinot Noir. The Dierberg is racy, but also possesses plenty of nuance.

2014 Star Lane Sauvignon Blanc, Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara
On Sale $19.99
This wine’s beauty in the simplicity with which it is made. Gently pressing juice results in excellent purity which is followed by shepherding a cool fermentation. That’s it. While 2014 saw acid decline more rapidly during maturity in many varieties, for some reason this was not the case for the Sauvignon Blanc. With subtle and very fresh profiles in the fruit, we opted to use a bit more netural oak in this vintage; fermenting in large 1,400 gallon oak casks to provide a balancing roundness to the precise freshness. The remaining juice was fermented in stainless steel and aged on the less until April when it was placed to bottle.

2012 Star Lane Cabernet Sauvignon, Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara
On Sale $34.99
The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is ripe, bold and exuberant, with tons of intensity and voluptuousness on display. Ripe red cherry, smoke, tobacco, plum, menthol and new leather are some of the many aromas and flavors that jump from the glass in this flamboyant, super-expressive Cabernet Sauvignon from Star Lane. The 2012 is not the last word on complexity, but it is incredibly delicious and should continue to offer fine drinking for the better portion of the next decade, give or take.

2014 Stolpman Vineyards Estate Roussanne, Ballard Canyon
On Sale $22.99
A voluptuously rich, full-bodied wine. The 2014 Roussanne remains bright and lively thanks to relatively high acid. Like our 2014 reds, the Roussanne is exceedingly approachable now, or cellar it two to five years for an even more luxuriously rich profile. A creamy mouthfeel with a bouquet of white flower, lemon meringue, and sweet cedar.

2013 Stolpman Syrah Estate, Santa Barbara
On Sale $24.99
Stolpman’s 2013 Syrah Estate is juicy and expressive, with plenty of Mediterranean herbs, dried flowers, black cherries and underbrush. A wine of real personality and character, the Estate captures the essence of what makes Ballard Canyon Syrahs so compelling; which is to say an interplay of dense fruit with expressive varietal aromatics. The Estate is made mostly from young vines, with about 50% whole clusters. This is my favorite of the Stolpman Syrahs. Some of the other selections are bigger and more powerful, but the Estate has, in my view, the best overall balance.
