22 Mar Saturday Tasting w/ Nicholson-Jones Wines
Saturday, March 26
12 to 4pm
In our Event Space
Join us this Easter Saturday as we welcome our friend and St. Louis native Cal Nicholson of Napa Valley’s Nicholson Jones Winery! Winemaker Julien Fayard (formerly of Mouton Rothschild) makes stunning, cutting edge wines every year, as he uses the strengths of the vintage to determine what wines to make, rather than always making what the winery has made in the past.
2013 Nicholson Jones Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley
On Sale $25.99
The 2013 Nicholson Jones Sauvignon Blanc is pale silver in color with a star-bright hue. Notes of lemon, apple, pear and melon appear in the nose with subtle underlying aromas of honeysuckle. Bright acidity on the palate gives way to ripe honeydew, cantaloupe and fresh cut grass. This wine is full bodied but maintains liveliness and freshness. This bottle is best consumed within 2-5 years.
2011 Nicholson Jones Chardonnay “Mae Vineyard,” Napa Valley
On Sale $44.99
Rich and creamy, this is Nicholson-Jones’ more modern, New World-style Chardonnay (as opposed to the Chablis style of their Dolly Hill Vineyard Chardonnay). While it has the body and power one would expect from a big California Chardonnay, winemaker Julian Fayard manages to express a decent amount of crisp minerality to balance out the rich texture. 100% Martinelli Vineyard Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley. 100% new French Oak.
2012 Vin Ver’ray Reserve Cabernet Franc, Napa Valley
On Sale $18.99
Vin Ver’Ray Napa Valley Cabernet Franc expresses aromas of berry and tobacco, giving way to flavors of red currant, black cherry and hints of vanilla. The long finish is coupled with strong yet yielding tannins. This full-bodied wine is fruit-forward and will age well, but can easily be enjoyed now. Vervay (Ver’Ray) is Middle English and means ‘true to the source’. The unique terroir creates an ideal growing environment for grapes such as Cabernet Franc. Cool temperatures coupled with red volcanic soils create wines that offer greater structure and more developed tannins. Bottled in January 2015. 180 cases produced.
2012 Vin Ver’ray Reserve Proprietary Red, Napa Valley
On Sale $16.99
Liqueur like fruit dominate the nose with cassis and kirsch and a subtle dark chocolate note. Bright, with fresh sage and more red and dark berry lead to a balanced palate. Neither too fleshy or lean, this strike a wonderful balance for fans of rich Napa reds.
2010 Nicholson Jones Proprietary Cuvee, Napa Valley
On Sale $49.99
38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Syrah, 24& Cabernet Franc from Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard. 26 months in 40% new French oak, 20% neutral oak. 364 cases produced.
2010 Nicholson Jones Cabernet Sauvignon “The Delivery,” Napa Valley
On Sale $59.99
Cabernet Sauvignon from Kan Vineyard, Rogers Vineyard, and Blue Oak Vineyard. 25 months in 80% new French oak, 20% in neutral oak. 310 cases produced.
2012 Nicholson Jones Cabernet Sauvignon “Sugarloaf Vineyard,” Napa Valley
On Sale $119.99
100% Mountain Cabernet means deep color and big extraction. Dense purple and garnet color with enticing aromas of cassis, and blueberry mixed with cedar and fresh herb notes. Mouth filling with a viscous texture, it’s almost chewy, exhibiting sweet tannin with a dense fruit profile that is followed by tobacco and a whiff of mint.
