Scarpetta Frico Tasting

19 Jan Scarpetta Frico Tasting

Sunday, January 22
1 to 4pm
At the Bar

The “Frico” wines from Scarpetta are a nod to the old fashioned tradition of “field blends,” which were wines made from mixtures of different types of grapes grown in the same vineyards. This tradition was designed to make grape harvests more resistant to weather challenges that affected one type of grape more than another. These wines are perfect examples of inexpensive Italian table wine made right!

2014 Scarpetta Frico Bianco, Friuli (Friulano, Chardonnay)
On Sale $8.99
This zippy Italian white blend is crisp, clean, and medium-bodied with aromas of fresh white flowers and flavors of tart apple and pear. The wine stainless steel aged, preserving the fresh fruit and zippy acid on the finish.

2014 Scarpetta Frico Rosso, Tuscany (Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon)
On Sale $8.99
This red blend is primarily Sangiovese, which comes through immediately with the aromas of cherry, cranberry, and a hint of spice. On the palate, the subtle oak comes across, lending soft tannins and an earthy body with notes of…plum pie? Is that a thing?
