Staff Favorite Reds Under $15

28 Jul Staff Favorite Reds Under $15

Apparently the weather is cooling down (wait, isn’t it still July?) and while it’s likely that we still have some really hot weeks ahead of us in 2018, right now we’re in the mood for red. Here are two of our favorite “best buys” under $15 that punch above their weight and offer incredible drinking pleasure.

2015 Tierra y Mar Pinot Noir “La Riviere,” Russian River Valley AVA
On Sale $14.99
This gem opens with striking aromatics! Black cherry, plum, sweet spice, cola, and leather are front and center. Rich and voluptuous, it captures all the exuberance that is a hallmark of Russian River Pinot. All the elements fall into place in a super-expressive Pinot to enjoy now and over the next few years. The palate is dominated by dark cherry, game, smoke, licorice, and dark spices, with firm tannin giving the impression this will improve over time, both in the glass and in the cellar.

2015 Parcelas de Familia Barrel Aged Red Blend, Valencia
On Sale $12.99
This vibrant red has fresh cherry and ripe blue fruits on the highly aromatic nose. It’s lush and open-knit in the mouth, with spicy black and blue fruit flavors lifted by juicy acidity. It closes silky and long, with ripe tannin and a note of smoke. This is classy juice that’s drinking well now. A really delicious blend of Garnacha, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Marselan (a white grape!) , the style is very modern and sexy. Pair this with rich, raw, sheep’s milk cheeses!
