Stunning Cabernets from Purlieu

05 Sep Stunning Cabernets from Purlieu

We have a limited allocation of these gorgeous Cabernets from Purlieu in Napa Valley. These beauties come from our friend Julien Fayard, winemaker for Nicholson-Jones, and in just a few vintages, the wines have achieved amazing quality and critical acclaim. Starting with grapes from some of the most sought-after vineyards in Napa, French native Julien Fayard uses his incredible command of winemaking to create stunningly bold, yet nuanced, Cabernets. This is a producer you’ll want to collect year after year. Quantities very limited!

“Kudos to Purlieu Wines for these great efforts.”

2014 Purlieu Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is as spectacular as the Missouri Hopper. Here’s something about these vineyards that just screams first-growth quality. This one has classic Pauillac crème de cassis, spice box, charcoal embers, graphite and forest floor. It is full-bodied and opulent, with layers of fruit, and of course, being a 2014, the tannins are sweet and the wine already compellingly addictive and full of charm. This full-bodied classic should drink well young and cellar for 20 or more years.

2014 Purlieu Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill “Martinez Vineyard”
From high on Pritchard Hill overlooking Oakville, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Martinez Vineyard displays rich, savory blackberry and black raspberry fruit, a dense purple color, a layered and full-bodied opulence, and a stunning finish. This is powerful, pedal-to-the-metal, but incredibly pure, rich, textured Cabernet Sauvignon that should drink beautifully for 20-25 years.

2014 Purlieu Cabernet Sauvignon Coombesville “Teucer Vineyard”
The single vineyard wines start with the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Teucer Vineyard from Coombsville. This is another beauty from this winery, which seems to be begging to be taken seriously, and justifiably so. This wine’s inky purple color, blueberry and black raspberry fruit, touches of minerality and licorice, full-bodied opulence, stunning concentration and texture, and long, long finish make for a prodigious example of Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon. I don’t know much about the Teucer Vineyard, but it has certainly provided a compelling reason to find out more about it. This wine should drink well for 25-30 years.

2014 Purlieu Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
On Sale $89.99
..this is a superb example of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Inky purple in color, with beautiful blackberry and cassis fruit, a touch of creosote, charcoal and some subtle background oak, the wine hits the palate with authority, serious extract and richness, but enough acidity to frame up its boisterous and exuberant parts. It is a big, rich, concentrated, mouth-filling Cabernet Sauvignon with relatively sweet tannin. It should drink well for 15-20 years, possibly longer.

2014 Purlieu “Le Pich” Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
On Sale $52.99
This is an excellent bistro-style of Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa at a fair price, with loads of black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, silky tannins, medium to full body and some heady alcohol in the finish, but it is in no way hot, just round, juicy, generous and irresistible. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. A sleeper of the vintage.
