19 Jan Super Sangioveses
Sangiovese, how do we love thee? This may be the ultimate red wine for St. Louis “winter,” since you can’t count on the weather to be predictable from one minute to the next. Lighter-bodied reds can fit the bill no matter what! These two incredible values come at great prices and we think they drink well above their price levels.
2012 Pianirossi Montecucco Sangiovese “Sidus,” Tuscany
On Sale $17.99
Lots of dried-nut, sliced-chocolate and berry character on the nose and palate. Full body, firm tannins and a ripe, juicy finish. Lots going on here. One of the best wines of the Montecucco appellation. Drink after 2016.

2015 Badia di Morrona Chianti DOCG “Caligiano,” Tuscany
On Sale $12.99
This spicy, smooth Sangiovese comes to us from a hidden gem producer. It’s a classic example of the grape, with red fruit flavors and a backbone of fresh herbs. The tannins are soft and understated but provide a nice dry finish. The wine drinks incredibly well at a bargain price!
